About Us

Head's Vision:

I want Ysgol Pentreuchaf to be a colorful and modern school which respects its history and culture, and progresses cautiously but determinedly towards excellence, preparing pupils for their future as citizens.

I aim to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to fulfill their potential by developing aspects and sharing experiences that will lay a firm foundation for adult life. This is done through pride in their Welshness and loyalty towards the community and heritage.

I believe that each pupil is equal but I also accept that children are different and have the right to succeed in different ways. I respect all pupils of all races, colour and credence and aim to teach the children to develop by respecting other people's beliefs and culture as well as their own.

I want children to leave Ysgol Pentreuchaf as confident pupils with a love of education, with good negotiation skills, personal integrity, and the ability to face challenges. I want the pupils to be able to learn independently as well as use collaborative skills; be aware of the standards expected of them; know how to improve their work and solve problems; have the ability to use the resources they need for development; know what to do if they face difficulties; and be able to use their research skills to find solutions.

For this to be possible, the curriculum must motivate them, be multi-sensory, and the teaching must be designed so that the children are in the process of learning rather than accepting everything on a plate. I want the curriculum to be broad and full of interest and experiences for the children, and one that will give them the opportunity to develop their full potential.

I want the school to embrace modern technology as a means of communication, as a learning tool, as a tool to save labour, and as something that allows us to bring the world into our classrooms.

I believe that pupils should take part in the day to day running of the school, and in the process of setting a direction for the school. For that to happen the children must be aware that their ideas and visions are respected, and that we will listen to them.

I want my staff to show initiative, take professional risks in their teaching, so that their development as leaders, educators and creative people is not suppressed or restricted. For everyone to benefit from the knowledge and skills of individual staff members, we all need to be able to communicate freely in an environment where everyone is respected, challenged and supported.

I believe that the school and the home is a partnership. I would like you as parents and guardians to be proud of the school. I believe the school should give you the opportunity to understand and be part of the teaching process so that you can help your children out of school. I would like you to feel able to ask questions and make suggestions regarding school life.

My vision of Ysgol Pentreuchaf puts the needs of children above all else, and I am convinced that the pupils deserve the best educational opportunities we can provide them.
