Dumbledore tops list of fictional characters parents wouldn’t want to look after their children

After revealing the fictional characters parents would most like to look after their children this time last year, we were curious to find out which fictional characters parents wouldn’t want to look after their children!

A quick survey of our community revealed that Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, tops the list - closely followed by Kevin’s parents in Home Alone, Kate and Peter McCallister and The Child Catcher from family favourite, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The top ten fictional characters that would make the worst childcare providers according to parents are:

1. Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter) – 26%
2. Kate & Peter McCallister (Home Alone) – 20%
3. The Child Catcher (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) – 17%
4. Miss Trunchbull (Matilda) – 11%
5. Timon and Pumbaa (The Lion King) – 9%
6. Evil Stepmother (Cinderella) – 7%
7. Cruella Deville (101 Dalmatians) – 5%
8. The Grand High Witch (The Witches) – 5%
9. Darth Vader (Star Wars) – 4%10. Count Olaf (A Series of Unfortunate Events) – 3%

Richard Conway, CEO and founder of Childcare.co.uk said,

“After conducting a similar survey revealing the fictional character parents would like to look after their children this time last year, we thought it would be interesting to see which ones they wouldn’t want to leave them in the care of.

“We were actually surprised to see Dumbledore top the list, especially after he made it onto the previous list that children voted to have look after them. It seems parents aren’t fans of his parenting style, perhaps as a result of all the dangerous situations he helped put Harry Potter in during his years at Hogwarts!”
