My Experience

During my studies; the Health and Social Care Subsidiary Diploma is very relevant to the job I am applying for as it gives me a wider understanding of the skills required to accomplish my goals. For example this could be to deal with individual challenging situations as they arise maybe unexpectedly; how to overcome barriers in different settings, i.e. language barriers, behavioural barriers and emotional barriers. Over the last two years I have undertaken a variety of placements located at various primary schools and nurseries across Bradford. Throughout my time on these placements my duties included: supervising children aged between 0-11 years’s old, applying strict government legislation and adhering to each schools policies and procedures. I feel that throughout this work experience I considerably developed my confidence on both a personal and professional level. My experiences gained during this process enabled me to understand the importance of empathy and how to apply myself in unfamiliar and difficult situations. The knowledge gained in relation to working with different age groups and children from different backgrounds has helped me understand clearly what will be required from me as a professional. The diversity of the children that I have worked with has developed my understanding of different cultures and backgrounds. An example of this was when a child couldn't speak any English whatsoever, I immediately felt more empathetic and my initial reaction was to help and offer support in any way possible. The way in which I chose to do this was to put a sentence in the easiest form, so that the child could understand. As our country continues to become more and more diverse with people from different countries and walks of life.
