My Summary
About Me
I'm a tutor who offers regular, bespoke tutoring and home education sessions to support students struggling to achieve their potential. I have a comprehensive approach using a wide variety of resources and techniques, including games to avoid monotony. I help students become more confident and believe in themselves. We even manage to have fun every now and then!
After each lesson I provide detailed reports to cover what we did, provide feedback, and share notes on any homework set.
If you're looking to actively support your child to make the most out of their education, please get in touch – to help you decide if tutoring with me is the right option for you and your family, we can go over any questions you have in a quick phone or video call.
My Experience
For over 15 years, I have tutored a wide variety of students in their homes, schools and community settings, supporting them to: increase their academic attainment; develop their social and personal skills; gain entrance to top independent schools; and learn to love and enjoy learning.
My approach is comprehensive and very much about the child as a whole. I strive for students to look forward to their schooling, no matter what their needs, and to bring out the best in my students.
Through regular bespoke tutoring, homeschooling and/or mentoring sessions, online and in person, I support students who are struggling to achieve their potential.
Every learner can benefit from a patient tutor who believes in them and will take the time to find the right method that works with their strengths and weaknesses.
With me, students learn how to learn, how to utilise the way their brain works, and how to develop the skills, techniques and habits they need. I ensure my students have balance and feel supported by using different ways of learning, from visual methods to more bespoke techniques.
I have always maintained a special interest in education, with plenty of qualifications under my belt. This has led me to specialise in learning outside classrooms – ideal for home education, young people with SEND or SEMH needs and those who just need a different way of learning than the rigid group lessons that classrooms offer.
Since starting full-time tutoring, I have become a certified member of a number of esteemed professional organisations:
• The Tutors’ Association
• National Association of Designed Safeguarding Leads (regional coordinator for West Midlands)
• National Association of Special Educational Needs
• Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Beyond tutoring, I also offer body-doubling, study sessions, reading groups, mock exam sessions, quizzes and plenty of extra-curricular activities.
If you’re looking to actively support your child to make the most out of their education and are willing to take an active role, we could be a good match.
My Qualifications
Having a special interest in education means that I am always learning about education, child development and other associated topics (eg safeguarding). I enjoy learning about research old and new, teaching and learning methods, pedagogy and more. There are so many ways that I consume this knowledge: reading academic journals, participating in courses, listening to podcasts, networking, undertaking my own research, attending webinars and lectures, etc; I am always learning and always interested.
I could list all of my certificates, qualifications and specialisms, but I would definitely run out of characters. Instead, here are some of the key areas and highlights that I have particular expertise, experience and qualifications in:
education and training, teaching students who have experienced complex trauma, teaching for specific and general learning difficulties (including: autism, ADHD, Tourettes, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc) educational psychology, educational neuroscience, safeguarding and child protection, first aid, mental health (including: anxiety and depression, eating disorders, mental health first aid, and more - I used to be the CEO of a mental health charity so have good awareness and maintain CPD and research), healthy eating and eating for mental health, LGBTQ+, disabilities and chronic health issues
Please feel free to ask me for further information if you would like to.
