My Experience

Clinical Assistant.
I had the opportunity to work alongside and under the supervision of a wide variety of clinicians in their large multi-disciplinary team.
I worked with children from 2 years old and upwards, as well as adults and families. The clients presented with a broad range of mental health diagnoses including attachment issues, autistic spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, child sexual abuse, psychosis, addiction and personality disorders.
The team supported and encouraged my interest in working with children and young adults, providing in- house training and supervision. I was invited to participate in individual therapy sessions led by the clinicians, and I spent a lot of time working with the Play Therapist, a Clinical Psychologist, an Expressive Arts Therapist and an Art Therapist. I was exposed to different techniques such as Sand Tray, mask making, CBT, ACT, narrative therapy, equine therapy and life story work. I was able to sit in on parent-feedback and family therapy sessions and co- facilitated parent-skills training workshops.
Solstice provides a range of popular group therapies for children and adolescents, I have been trained to facilitate Lego Therapy, a manualised Group Therapy for children and young adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and social communication difficulties and anxiety. I co-facilitated a girl’s body image group for primary and secondary school aged girls with histories of child sexual abuse alongside a clinical psychologist and worked at busy therapeutic summer camps with Occupational Therapists, Play Therapists and Psychologists. During the camps I was charged with teaching mindfulness and relaxation training to children and adolescents.
I have over 300 hours of face to face clinical contact with children and young adults.

Therapy Assistant.
As a therapy assistant, I worked with young autistic individuals from the age of 4 and up.
I developed and put into place stabilising daily routines that had many positive effects, such as happier and calmer mornings, earlier and simpler bedtimes, less daily screen time, and more time spent outdoors.
A healthier and more nutrient-dense diet was also introduced by combining enjoyable and simple culinary experiences, which in turn helped some people with food taste and texture sensitivities.
I introduced regular enjoyable activities and hobbies that were tailored to each person's skills, talents, and interests.
Working together to help individuals flourish and achieve prosperous independent living with greater choice and control of their future.
