Hi my name is Alanah, I'm a positive, energetic, fun; nurturing, and caring individual. I'm a mum to a bubbly 6-year-old, I really enjoy and love being a mum. Aside from my work experience, watching my son's growth throughout the current stages has enabled me to gain an in-depth understanding of child development and children's needs. Having my own child has taught me to become even more patient and open to researching various ways and strategies to teach him and encourage him to reach his full potential. I find it very rewarding to look after children and be a part of their developmental journey. I have cared for many children over the years; I have also assisted my family and friends with looking after their children between the ages of 0- 18years old. I think it's very important for children to experience a fun, loving childhood as well as them understanding boundaries that are age appropriate.

My Experience
At present, I have 11 years of Childcare and young people experience with no Gaps. I have worked in a range of settings such as nurseries (5yrs); children's residential homes (2yrs) and youth clubs (1yr). I currently work full-time as a Placement support worker, my role entails carrying out responsibilities towards looked after children; such as Supervising contact of looked after children,
Arranging and joining in activities with the looked-after child and/or the fostering household.
As and when to attend meetings to support foster carers, social workers, children.
Mentoring/supporting children who are at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation, grooming, county lines, self-harm, and low school attendance. Supporting young people to develop self-care and independence skills, writing logs and reports as required, and any other supportive tasks as requested, e.g. health and safety checks at fostering households, and unannounced visits. To manage a caseload of children and ensure I respond in crises and emergencies; To work in partnership with the Local authority social work teams and to fully enact and facilitate Care Plans for children in placement.
I studied Child Psychology at University as I've always had an interest in child development and how the mind works. This degree has enabled me to work effectively in my current role as a therapeutic mentor. I am currently training to become a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist in children and Adolescents, I attend university every Saturday morning.
