My Summary

My Experience

In recent years, I have experienced and enjoyed looking after and working with children. Throughout secondary school, I helped the younger years students from the ages of 3 to 7 with tasks such as reading and assisting them in settling in for the school morning. I was able to appreciate their finer needs and discover the differences and unique desires of children from various backgrounds.
 
Additionally, I spent a week in Nairobi, Kenya teaching a basketball camp for children who ranged in age from 8 to 13. This provided me with a very unique experience of working with children from backgrounds dissimilar to my own, as well as teaching me the importance of cultural sensitivity in a working environment. Furthermore, I developed leadership skills as I organised and directed activities for the children.
 
Finally, I have spent many years babysitting younger children in my neighbourhood in Dublin. Throughout the years, I have learnt to be more responsible, dependent, and trustworthy. I have gained great insight into the challenges and joys of looking after children, such as resolving conflict, managing children with different personalities and doing various activities both inside and outside the home. Overall, these experiences have helped me develop a strong understanding of child development and how to effectively communicate with children of different ages.

My Qualifications

Although I do not have any formal qualifications, my experience written above highlights my understanding and ability to work with children effectively. I have demonstrated my ability to provide academic support, create a welcoming environment and engage with children in fun activities.

My Availability

I am available most weekdays apart from Friday afternoons as I volunteer at the St Peter's Hospice in-patient unit.
