The Petite Playroom

My name is Julie, and I run an Ofsted-registered home-based childcare setting in Witton Gilbert, just outside Durham. I have been Ofsted registered and providing childcare for 20 years.

The Petite Playroom is based within my family home, creating a warm and welcoming environment where children can feel comfortable, secure, and settled. Small group sizes allow me to provide a high level of individual attention, maintain consistent routines, and build strong, positive relationships with both children and their families.

At The Petite Playroom, the environment, activities, and play opportunities are carefully planned to nurture children’s imagination, creativity, and natural curiosity, while also meeting their individual care, learning, and development needs.

My practice is inspired by a range of respected early years approaches, including Montessori, The Curiosity Approach, and Forest School. I thoughtfully incorporate elements of these where they best support children’s independence, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Drawing on my professional knowledge and over twenty years of experience in early years care and education, I offer a warm, flexible, and individual approach to childcare.

I am open Monday to Wednesday from 7:00am to 5:30pm and operate all year round. Both private and government-funded childcare places are available. The Petite Playroom is an Early Years only provision, supporting children within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
