Ended contract with no notice at all

Reviewed

I wouldn't recommend this childminder. I chose her partly because of her many positive reviews, so I was very disappointed by our experience.

My child started with settling-in sessions in August and began attending regularly in September. Before we started, we mutually agreed to give each other at least four weeks' notice, which is also stated in her own policy. Recently I gave written notice that my child would be moving to nursery in mid-November, well over four weeks away. Instead of giving us the same notice, she messaged on a Sunday afternoon to say my child could no longer attend from the next day and that her place would go to someone else. This left us with less than a day to find alternative childcare.

Earlier, while in her care, my child tripped and split her lip, which was bleeding and swollen. I wasn't contacted at the time, only told at collection, and I wasn't given any accident form.

Parents should be aware that her policies may not always be followed.

I’m very sorry that you feel this way and that our childcare arrangement ended on a negative note.

I would, however, like to clarify a few points raised in your review.

You had already informed me of your decision to end our childcare arrangement, as your child was due to start nursery in November. Following this, I was approached by another family who required childcare with an immediate start. As a self-employed childminder, I have to manage the availability of places carefully, and the decision was made on that basis. It was never intended to cause any upset.

Regarding the minor accident mentioned, your child had a small trip and was comforted, monitored and settled afterwards. As there was no indication of a serious injury or ongoing concern, I informed you at collection. The safety and wellbeing of every child in my care is always my priority, and I would never hesitate to contact a parent immediately if a situation required it.

With regard to the comments about cleanliness, food and the childcare environment, none of these concerns were raised with me during the time your child attended. I take great pride in providing a clean, safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all the children in my care.

It is disappointing that our arrangement has ended in this way, particularly as I always strive to maintain positive relationships with the families I support.

I genuinely wish you and your child all the very best and hope they settle happily into their new nursery.
