My Experience
Mothers help for a family of 3 children (Full Time)
September 2016 - Present
I currently help for a family of 3 children ages 2, 4 and 6 years. When arriving at work I help to finish getting the two older girls ready for school, ensuring both of their book bags are ready before mum does the school run. I am usually asked to do the school run a few times a week. Once they have left the house I then finish off getting the youngest child ready for a morning of activities.
This role has included a number of responsibilities including but not limited to,
Planning age appropriate activities for the 2 year old
Taking the children to planned classes, swimming lessons, monkey music etc
Keeping the playroom and girls bedrooms tidy throughout the week
Keeping on top of washing and ironing ensuring the girls have clean clothes each day
Preparing meals focussing on the children’s nutritional requirements
Helping with the school drop off and pick up
During a typical day whilst the older two girls are at school/nursery I usually have sole responsibility of the 2 year old. During the time we spend together I arrange playdates for the mornings or we go to a few different planned classes that she enjoys. We come back for lunch followed by play time before she has her afternoon nap and later in the afternoon we go out for the school run. I utilise any spare time in the morning and early afternoon to keep on top of all jobs that need doing. When we arrive home I help the girls with their homework and then start preparing the evening meal ready for 5 o’clock. After dinner I take all 3 girls up for a bath and get them ready for bed, they then have half an hour of tv before myself and their mum will take them up to bed for stories before I go home at 7.
Nanny for a family of 5 children (Full Time)
January 2016 – August 2016
I nanny for 5 children ages 8, 6, 5, 2 and a half and 9 months. When arriving at work for half 7 I assist the three older children getting ready for school, whilst getting the younger two dressed. My morning routine consisted of,
Ensuring the older children had their book bags ready with the correct things in them
Nutritious breakfast to prepare them for the day ahead
Walking to and from school
Taking the 2 and a half year old to nursery on tuesday mornings
Once everything was complete I then took Melissa to morning activities, which changed weekly. We went on weekly walks, play groups, play dates, swimming, soft play, gravity tots, and lots more. When arriving back to the house i then put Melissa staright to sleep as she usually fell asleep on the way home, whilst Melissa slept i did some general tidying making sure the childrens bedrooms were tidy, putting laundry on if necessary and putting the dishwasher on, i also prepared a nutritious lunch for when Melissa woke.
Kids Inc, Crowthorne (Full Time)
September 2014 - Present
I started at Kids Inc in September 2014 as a nursery nurse tasked with the same set of responsibilities as discussed below (Section regarding Holly Cottage). After allot of hard work and determination I was then promoted to room leader in May 2015 as a result of my attitude towards work and my aptitude to learn new things and take on new challenges. On top of my daily duties I was also then tasked with,
• Discussing the needs of new children with parents and ensuring those needs are fulfilled whilst completing all necessary paperwork to ensure parents remain updated with their child's progress whilst they are settling in.
• Completing weekly observations which are used to keep parents informed regarding their child's growth and development.
• Management of staff ensuring the highest levels of care are upheld at all times and the environment is kept as clean and safe as possible.
• Management of the parents needs and concerns regarding their child such as their communication and language and physical development as examples.
Holly Cottage Nursery (Full Time)
May 2014 – September 2014
I worked as a nursery nurse tasked with the duties of general care for children in 3 different age groups(babies - 3 to 16 months, toddlers - 16 months to 2 years 9 months, pre-school – 2 years 9 months to 5 years). My day to day tasks and duties consist of,
• Welcoming parents on a daily basis and consulting them on the progress and general well being of their child.
• Ensuring the children are consuming a balanced and well planned meal on a daily basis to ensure they are receiving the nutrition they require for their development.
• Leading group time which is used to teach the children various skills which are then assessed in order the review their overall performance and development.
• Interaction with the children during free play time. During this time i help to supervise the children and ensure that this part of the day runs smoothly as well as ensuring that the children are taking as much as possible from it.
• Hygiene management and training. This consists of ensuring the highest standards of hygiene are upheld which helps to contribute to an overall cleaner and happier environment. As part of our regime we ensure the children are cleaned up where required and we as the nurses keep the environment as clean as possible.
• Toilet training support. It is down to the parents to decide when the time is right to toilet train their child but I assist in and support this throughout the time that the children spend at the nursery.
• Health and safety support and management throughout the day. At Holly Cottage Nursery time spent outside is considered to be a highly important part of any child's development. During this time an elevated level of supervision is required to ensure that the children are spending their time safely as well as enjoying themselves. As part of this duty I am required to oversee all activities the participating children are carrying to ensure they are safe.
• Helping the children who require a sleep during the day to settle down and remain un disturbed in order to ensure that they get as much important rest as possible.
Work Experience as follows;
• A mother and baby placement with the Hughes family in Odiham 2 days a week for a six week duration where I assisted in the general care of a 6 month old baby. During this time I changed nappies, helped with feeding and helped to settle the baby and get him to sleep.
• I spent 2 days a week for 10 weeks helping at Westfields Community Pre-School. I spent this time playing with the children and helping to ensure they were kept happy throughout the day. I attempted to spend my time with the children playing both mentally and physically stimulating games which I believe is an important part of their development.
• Westfield’s Infant School as a classroom assistant for work experience every day over the period of two weeks. During this time I was responsible for helping the children to perform a series of tasks in a variety of different subjects.
• Newlands Primary School as a classroom assistant 2 days a week over the period of six weeks. During this time I was responsible for helping the children to perform a series of tasks in a variety of different subjects.
