About Me
I am a reliable, caring nanny. I am honest, dedicated, flexible and responsible in my work. I am able to work as part of a team or with the parents and am able to use my own initiative whilst respecting the requests of the parents or other staff.
I have a calm, patient nature; which I believe is necessary when working with young children. I like to praise children when I can for good behaviour rather than using negative words such as: bad or naughty. I find a smile and teaching by good example goes a long way.
I believe to be happy children, they need to have a routine, incorporating plenty of opportunities to let off steam, preferably outside as well as quieter activities. It is also important to offer healthy meals, using fresh ingredients when possible and involving the children in the preparation.
I enjoy joining in and providing fun stimulating/educational activities for myself and the children in my care from:cooking,painting,gardening,colouring,making dens,games in the park and garden,walks in the country, swimming, bike rides, play dates to name just a few...
My personal interests include: Line dancing, country music, cooking, knitting, eating out, walking my dog, walking holidays, looking after my house and garden. I also help my partner with his sheep on occasion eg: herding, loading into the trailer for market and feeding orphan lambs in the spring.
My Experience
I have 33yrs experience in childcare, working with children from 0-10 years. I have worked in nursery schools, day nurseries, creches, schools and as a nanny. Since receiving the NNEB in 1999 I have worked predominantly as a nanny. During this time I have had both daily, live in, shared care and sole charge positions. In many of my positions I have been left in total sole charge of the children ( from one to four), including overnight in the parent's absence.
I have lots of experience in establishing routines, being flexible when there are other siblings in the family; planning age apropriate activities, weaning, potty training and generally occupying,supervising and stimulating children. In several of my families and at home I have been responsible for helping with the care and exercise of their pets, such as: horses/ponies, chickens, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, gerbil and tortoises.
I am an excellent cook, with cookery qualifications and enjoy cooking imaginative food for children and the whole family.
