About Me

Hello, I’m Carrieann

I’m an Ofsted registered childminder based in Alvaston. I’ve been working with children for around 20 years. During that time I’ve worked in schools, nurseries, pre-schools and as a sole-charge nanny, childcare is my passion.

I provide a warm, welcoming, homely environment where children can play, explore, get messy, be curious and most importantly, enjoy being children.

I live here with my husband and our three children, along with our two dogs, a Labrador and a Golden Retriever. The dogs have their own separate space away from the children, although they are both very friendly and used to being around children.

We also have guinea pigs, who are a big part of life here. The children love helping to care for them, learning how to handle them gently, feed them and look after their environment.

My whole home is registered for childminding, giving children plenty of space to play and explore. Inside, we have a wide variety of resources including open ended and loose parts play, allowing children to use their imagination and create their own games and ideas rather than everything having one particular purpose.

We have lots of opportunities for creative and sensory play too, from painting and crafting to messy trays, playdough, baking and making things. I love being creative myself so there is always something new being made and explored.

Outside is a big part of our day. We have a large garden to explore and opportunities for mud play, digging, den building, exploring, gardening and getting wonderfully muddy.

The children also help to grow fruit and vegetables, giving them the chance to see where food comes from. They love to plant and care for the plants.

I believe children learn so much through play, exploration and real life experiences.
We regularly get out and about to local parks, green spaces, farms, nature areas and places of interest. We are lucky to have Alvaston Park and Elvaston Castle nearby as well as lots of other lovely places to explore.

Whether we're looking for bugs, splashing in puddles, collecting sticks, watching the seasons change, caring for animals, baking, building a den or simply having fun together, there is always opportunities to learn along the way.
I aim to give children a childhood filled with muddy boots, messy hands, creativity, fresh air, adventures and lots of happy memories.

Most importantly, I want the children in my care to feel safe, secure, valued and listened to. I get to know each child as an individual and follow their interests, allowing them to develop at their own pace while providing plenty of encouragement and opportunities to try new things.
