About Me

Hello I'm Mary,I live in Hanham with my husband and our boys (7 and 5 years).

I currently work as a children's worker for a local charity 2.5 days a week and in a local nursery 2 days a week.

In addition to this I have a wealth of experience in various settings including 2 years working as a family support worker, 2 years in a children's centre and a range of voluntary experiences including experience working at a school in Peru and volunteering at a summer camp for "children of Chernobyl"

I consider myself a gentle parent and practitioner. I am kind, caring, sensitive and empathetic. I genuinely love working with children and have done so for many years. I have extended and developed my knowledge and passion for early years by studying Early Childhood studies at UWE for which I was awarded a 2:1 BA (HONS) Degree.

I find working with children hugely rewarding encouraging and watching young children grow and develop into kind, strong and happy individuals.

When nannying I find my days can be very varied but always centred around the children's interests, needs and routine. This could lead us to spend mornings crunching through piles of leafs, splashing in muddy puddles, visiting local museums, making friends at play groups, sharing stories at the library, dancing around the living room or simple playing with a pile of cardboard boxes! (to name but a few activities).

I like to offer children a rich, stimulating environment but also recognise that children need space to explore and learn independently, I respect and value this space and ensure it is always a safe environment during this time I observe and reflect and the children's interest and think of ways to encourage and support these interests.

I am happy to cook a range of healthy home cooked meals and ensure the children have the naps they require in addition to meeting all their needs.

Aside form working and looking after my own boys I also enjoy cooking, running, swimming and catching up with friends. I am currently also studying a counselling course in the evening which I'm really enjoying!

My Experience

I am currently working as a children's worker for a local charity 2.5 days a week, this is an exciting a varied role!

Prior this I was employed by Bristol City council as a family support worker for 2 years again a challenging but highly rewarding job working with children and families aged 0-18.

When my boys were very small I was very fortunate to work for lovely families who let me take them along with Mr to look after their similar aged children, these were fun and happy times and I'm still in touch with the families I used to work for!

Before having my own children i worked as an Early years practitioner in a busy children’s centre where I was a key worker for 7 children in the day care which provided care for children aged 0-3. My role also involved me working in the community where I ran groups for children aged 0-5 and their parents.

I have over 15 years experience within the childcare industry nannying for a number of families with children ranging in age from 3 months to 10 years.

I also gained a wealth of experience working in the community with a health visitor, on a medical ward and at the children’s hospital during my time as a student children’s nurse.

In addition to this experience I have also babysat for numerous families over the years and been involved in a number of voluntary projects including working at a school in Peru and a summer camp for the Children of Chernobyl.

I am DBS checked and willing to register with Ofsted and can provide excellent references on request.

My Qualifications

I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies.
