My Summary
About Me
Hello! I'm Ellis,
I am a British nanny with lots of experience. I obtained my childcare qualification when I left school, I knew from the moment I left formal education that I wanted to go into childcare. My first few roles were as a qualified nursery practitioner in different day nurseries. I learnt a lot working in the nurseries, it was a great experience.I came into the nannying world some years later.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to experience 2 and a half years of living in Italy as a nanny and tutor. I cared for over 20 children whilst there, I helped the children improve their English, prepared some for exams, became a part time nanny for twins, became an after school nanny which included picking children up from school, cooking, taking them to after school activities and more. Providing my skills and expertise in another country was a fantastic experience.
I moved to back to the UK, to London in 2018 and have since nannied for lots of families of different nationalities. It's been wonderful. I've primarily worked with babies and toddlers but I have also cared for older (middle school aged) children too. The first family I worked for when moving to London was for a baby of 8 months and to this day I still see her on occasion, she's now 9! We have a really lovely relationship, it warms my heart how much she loves my visits. This goes for other families who I've stayed in touch with because the children/parents and I have a special connection, it truly warms my heart.
My most recent update I'm excited to share with you is that I became a mother in Aug 2025. My gorgeous son is about to celebrate his first birthday and I can confirm I'm completely obsessed with him! He's bought me so much joy and love into my life that these intense feelings still amaze me. I currently work part time for a family in Surrey where I take him with me, my son and the nanny kids love being together, it's so nice to see.
Come October, my partner and I are switching roles and he'll be a stay at home dad whilst I work because we are relocating to Hampshire.
So an important question ...who am I as a person?
I am fun, warm, caring and very positive. I love opportunities as you never know where they may lead you. I'm a real optimist!
I enjoy meeting new people, I'm super intrigued by people's life stories and ambitions.
I love, love, love being in nature! I took up hiking 7 years ago so being outdoors is something I adore!
I enjoy being creative too whether it be problems to solve or baking and I do love a Steven Bartlett podcast.
Learning Spanish is something I'm trying to give a go and in recent years, learning to free dive has been amazing.
As a nanny, you may have guessed.. I love being outside! I love taking the children on adventures, making our own binoculars and going on bug hunts, creating a forest collection from the woods and doing things like visiting museums are all things I've done many times.
Creating cards, painting and doing the odd science experiment is great for getting creative indoors. I'm also a big lover on music and dance so singing and dancing around the living room is always a hit with the kids!
What I love about working with children is how fantastic it is to see their development. It's exciting to see the milestones they reach, seeing their new found confidence over something particular, working with them through big emotions or overcoming a new challenge, I love being a part of all of it.
Over the years I've become very interested in the psychology of my work. It's made me a better person, nanny and mother. Once you start to understand children's behaviour, you as the adult are able to stay calm and regulated. Children need a regulated adult to show them how to work through their emotions. Shaming, bribery and punishment isn't beneficial for the long term and I believe it teaches children the wrong values. My approach is love, care and interest first with being firm but fair when it's needed.
I am First Aid trained and DBS checked (on the update service) and I have a full UK driving licence and have a car.
So, I think for now I have said most of what is necessary. If you have taken the time to read all of this, I thank you and I will be happy to hear from those who are interested in speaking more.
Have a great day!
Ellis
