Nanny in Waverley
My Summary
Primary School Tutor
About Me
I am an experienced and dedicated childcare professional, with over 30 years of experience working with children as a primary teacher, maternity nurse, nanny, tutor and Children and Families Leader. I bring a calm, nurturing presence alongside a strong focus on each child’s emotional, social and educational development.
I have particular expertise in working with children from birth to age 8, including postnatal care for newborns and twins. I have a deep understanding of early childhood physical, emotional and social development, and I am highly attuned to the individual needs of each child.
My approach is both structured and relational. I am calm, positive and proactive, offering a light, confident authority that helps children feel secure and understood. I am empathetic and attachment-focused in my practice, ensuring each child feels heard and valued, and I am skilled in supporting children to express themselves and find their voice.
I am fit and energetic, and love to take children outside in all weathers, encouraging exploration, resilience and a connection with the natural world. Balance and wellbeing are very important to me, and I believe children thrive when they are given time and space to learn through nature and play.
I also bring a love of music and creativity into my work. I play the piano to Grade 8 standard and enjoy singing songs and rhymes with younger children. I adore reading stories, imaginative play, making models, cooking together and encouraging what I would describe as “old-fashioned play”: simple, engaging and full of joy.
Alongside this, I place importance on manners, respect and boundaries, but always in a way that honours the child’s stage of development and allows them to remain fully themselves. My approach to discipline is calm, consistent and respectful.
I am accustomed to working within family environments and understand the importance of fitting seamlessly into family life. I am organised, reliable and discreet, and I take pride in creating a calm, well-run home environment. I am a trusted, fun presence with a good sense of humour, and I enjoy building warm, positive relationships with both children and parents.
I also have a strong interest in psychology, attachment and counselling, which further informs my approach and allows me to support both children and families with sensitivity and insight.
Above all, I genuinely love what I do. I find great joy in supporting children to grow in confidence, feel secure in themselves, and flourish in a happy, nurturing environment.
My Experience
I bring over 30 years of experience working with children across a range of roles, including primary teaching, nannying, tutoring, maternity nursing and leading children and families work within a church setting.
As a qualified primary teacher, I have taught across the full primary age range, including Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, with particular strengths in early years development, literacy and confidence-building. Alongside classroom teaching, I have extensive experience as a private tutor, supporting children on an individual basis and tailoring learning to their specific needs, interests and learning styles. My approach consistently supports both academic progress and a strong sense of self-belief.
In recent years, I have specialised in working with younger children, including babies and toddlers, developing a deep understanding of early childhood development from birth onwards. My experience as a maternity nurse includes supporting families with newborn care, including twins, establishing routines, and providing calm, consistent guidance during the early stages of family life.
I have also worked closely with families in nanny roles, supporting children within the home environment and becoming a trusted and reliable presence in daily family life. This has included managing routines, supporting emotional wellbeing, encouraging development through play, and working in partnership with parents to ensure consistency and continuity of care.
In my role as Children and Families Leader, I built a thriving programme from the ground up, growing participation significantly and creating a warm, inclusive environment for children and parents. This role further strengthened my skills in leadership, organisation and pastoral support, as well as my ability to connect with families from a wide range of backgrounds.
Alongside this, I have experience supporting children with additional needs, adapting my approach to ensure that each child feels understood, supported and able to succeed.
Across all of my roles, I have developed a strong ability to read children well, respond to their individual needs, and create environments in which they feel safe, confident and able to flourish. I am confident working both independently and as part of a wider family or team, and I take pride in offering consistent, thoughtful and high-quality care.
