My Experience

I have dedicated over 21 years to supporting children and families, including 14 years as a registered childminder and the past seven years with Dundee City Council. During my time with the Council, I have progressed through the roles of PEYSA, Health and Wellbeing Assistant, and I am currently employed as a Learning and Care Assistant.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children across both mainstream and Additional Support Needs (ASN) settings. For the past five years, I have worked within a school nurture room, supporting children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 who require additional emotional, behavioural and learning support. I have also been part of a specialist provision team, providing tailored support for children with complex additional needs.
I have extensive experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, ADD, Tourette Syndrome, ODD, PDA and those who have experienced childhood trauma. I work confidently with both verbal and non-verbal children and have a thorough understanding that all behaviour is a form of communication. I believe every child deserves to feel safe, respected, listened to and included, and I am passionate about creating nurturing environments where children can thrive.
A key aspect of my role is building trusting relationships with children and their families. I work closely with parents and carers to understand each child's individual needs, routines, interests and triggers, enabling us to develop effective strategies that promote emotional regulation and positive outcomes. Whether a child requires sensory resources, visual supports, quiet spaces, play-based learning or structured routines, I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs.
I have significant experience supporting children to develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence. I use a wide range of communication and visual supports, including visual timetables, First and Then boards, activity boards, communication boards, Core Boards, PECS and Boardmaker. I also have experience delivering interventions such as Bucket Time, Attention Autism, Relax Kids, social skills groups, life skills sessions and healthy eating initiatives. These programmes have helped children develop communication, attention, turn-taking, confidence, emotional awareness and social interaction skills.
Transitions can be particularly challenging for many children, and I have extensive experience supporting children and families through daily transitions, class changes and school-based anxieties. I have worked one-to-one and in small groups to develop strategies that reduce anxiety, improve attendance and enable children to engage successfully in learning.
I have completed a wide range of professional training, including CALMS, de-escalation techniques, restorative practice, trauma-informed practice, GIRFEC, SHANARRI, childhood trauma, providing enhanced support, paediatric first aid, moving and handling, food hygiene (Level 2), stimming and schemas, along with all mandatory Dundee City Council e-learning modules. I am committed to continuous professional development and enjoy learning new approaches that improve outcomes for children.
Alongside my school role, I currently work casual shifts within a children's residential care setting, where I provide care, nurture and support to young people with complex needs. This has further strengthened my ability to build positive relationships, respond calmly in challenging situations and promote children's wellbeing within a caring, structured environment.
I am a patient, compassionate and resilient individual who thrives on building positive relationships and supporting children to achieve their full potential. I approach every day with optimism, believing that each day is a fresh start and that, with consistency, nurture and understanding, every child can experience success. I pride myself on being kind, respectful, approachable and dependable, and I always strive to make children and families feel valued and supported.
I am flexible, enthusiastic and highly motivated, with no dependent children at home, allowing me to fully commit to my career. I am excited by the opportunity to join a new team where I can continue to develop my skills while making a positive difference to the lives of children, young people and their families. I would bring dedication, professionalism, empathy and a genuine passion for helping children feel safe, confident, included and able to reach their full potential.

My Qualifications

I have Svq3, level 7 in Children and young people as well as being trained in stimming, schemas, attention autism, first aid, calms training.

My Availability

I currently have space available for baby sitting/ nanny and for nursery/primary school tutoring.
