My Experience
I am a qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner and am First Aid trained, currently working as a residential support worker. I previously worked at New Fosseway school as a HLTA (higher level teaching assistant). I have various experience with children of all different ages and abilities.
I am working full-time with young people with emotional & behavioural needs which can be very challenging but also very rewarding. I have also worked with children with additional needs for the last 5 years.
I have babysat a young girl with Down-syndrome aged 11 on odd occasions and have done for the past 4/5 years. I am able to take her on trips/outings and spend quality time with her to enable her mum rest-bite.
Before working at New Fosseway School I worked in St. Christopher's which is a severe additional needs residential school and previous to this a local nursery, Illminster Avenue Specialist Nursery where I gained months of experience as a supply, working in all the classrooms.
As part of my course I had to plan activities for babies, toddlers and children and ensure they could be adapted to suit their individual needs. Therefore, I am aware of the importance of children being able to learn through play and exploration as well as working in partnership with parents/carers.
