I'm looking for a babysitter able to care for both children.
My son is a bubbly, sociable autistic 10yr old. He loves gaming and speaking about his gaming. He loves the trampoline and hammock swing and never stops moving unless he has a screen in his hand. He spent a few years unable to access school and with poor mental health but he is doing much better now. However, he is very sensitive to tone of voice and his capacity to meet daily demands fluctuates. He has a good network of friends and likes to play online with them if he can't see them in person.
My daughter is also autistic but her needs are higher than my son's currently. She also struggled with mainstream school and as a result has lost daily interaction with her previous friendship groups.
My Requirements
I'm looking for a long-term babysitter who has a positive view of human diversity in general and neurodiversity specifically. I need someone who will take guidance about their specific needs, since traditional parenting techniques are not appropriate. My daughter in particular needs a babysitter who genuinely appreciates her creative and often quirky character and is able to connect and play with her. She is incredibly bright and loves asking questions about the world and various injustices. But she is socially and emotionally younger than her age and likes role play and using her imagination. A willingness to work collaboratively and flexibly and to learn about PDA autism is more important to me than formal qualifications. Both children can be rigid in their thinking and so adults caring for them need to be responsive, calm and flexible. A sense of humour is a huge bonus!
