About Me
Sara's Cygnets I have been rated outstanding in October 2023 and January 2018 by Ofsted I can offer a nuturing family environment in a safe, secure, stimulating setting. I am a former early years teacher with a wealth of expertise to enable your child to flourish. We live in a modern detached family home in Silsoe. I am an outstanding Ofsted registered child minder.
I currently have space for daycare and before and after school. My General hours are 08:00 till 18:00

My Experience
As a mother and child care practitioner I have experience of babies from newborn onwards. As consequence of my life skills and extensive early years education and experience. I have an abundance of expertise in providing a safe secure environment in which your child would be nurtured, stretched and supported to develop within my care. If your child is within the foundation phase, I will ensure your child’s learning journey is matched to the ever changing needs and interests of your child.
I did my PGCE in Primary School Teaching, specialising in the Foundation years that includes ages 3 to in 8 years. I have worked as a foundation stage teacher from 2002 to 2014.
I qualified as Nursery Nurse in 1989 so I have a wealth of early years experience.
During my life I have taught aerial arts and circus skills in London to children and adults.
I am of member of English Heritage and make full use of Wrest Park and enjoy nature walks, picnics there or at home in our garden. We often go on puddle hunts, do craft activities at home, go to local playgroups where in pre Covid times I lead the singing sessions, as well as time at home playing, making biscuits all activities are linked to your child’s next steps within their early years journey etc.
I have a BA in Art and Archaeology in Asia and Africa and took an interest in Thai language. I lived in Thailand, and then went on to teach English as a foreign language to foundation year students in China for a year.
My Qualifications
I qualified as Nursery Nurse in 1989 so I have a wealth of early years experience.

I have a certificate in British BSL:level 1
I speak some Thai and Mandarin and happy to develop my language skills to help settle your child.
Peadiatric First aid, safe guarding and food handling qualifications.

I have one full time space coming up in November 2023.
I am available for before and after-school too.

Sara has played a pivotal role in our two-year-old's development and has helped him to excel beyond what we would have expected for his age.
Sara creates bespoke lessons for each child, tailored to their individual needs and inspired by the environment around the child, their interests, the seasons and nature.
Sara also cares for our six-year-old daughter before school. She loves her time at Sara’s and all the thoughtful activities she fits into the short space of time in the mornings.
An example of a learning journey both our children loved, was she when Sara taught them about the life of a caterpillar through to a butterfly. Sarah kept some caterpillars in a special enclosure and the children watched them feed, grow, build cocoons and eventually hatch into butterflies and be released. The journey was enriched with story-telling, art, nature walks and factual information. The children were fascinated and learnt so much.
Sara updates us with what our son is doing each day through WhatsApp messages and Tapestry, which we find reassuring and gives us good communication tools about his day.
We have frequent developmental meetings and discussions about our child's progress and areas to focus on - be it signing and feeding when he was younger, to speech, behaviour, counting, colours - so his learning has a joined-up approach.
We love that Sara takes the children on learning walks, observing nature and that this is translated into activities - like creating art using conkers.
Sara is uniquely gifted in her understanding of children and ability to tap into their interests and make their learning and development fun and sensitive to their personality and individual needs. She is also very reliable and has never let us down.

Sara was amazing with our little boy. She was very knowledgeable and communicated well. She planned engaging and fun activities which he loved taking part in. She kept us well informed about his progress and next steps for learning. Would highly recommend Sara.

My daughter attended before and after school for over 4 years. Sara always provided a very high standard of care and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed attending.
Sara provided a home from home environment with a warm, caring and nurturing environment.
I would highly recommend.

Sara looked after my daughter in the mornings before school. My daughter really enjoyed going and did some really fun activities while there. Sara is very experienced, efficient and always communicated well keeping me up to date with what they had been doing that morning ect. The setting is very child friendly and my daughter made some good friends while there. We hope to keep in touch with them all. I would definitely recommend Sara for all childcare needs.

I highly recommend Sara at Sara Cygnets for childcare. She has provided a lovely safe caring environment, and provides so many creative and varied activities for children to learn and develop whilst having fun. I can see the passion that Sara has for teaching children. My son has really enjoyed his time there and built great relationships with Sara, her family and other children too. Sara has supported with my sons physical and mental development as well as his social development. Sara has always provided regular updates on how my son was getting on and I always felt reassured that he was in good hands. My son will definitely miss being a part of Sara's childcare setting and we will continue to remain in touch with Sara and her family.
