About Me

Hello, my name is Dawn, I am 29 years old and have just returned to London from living abroad for the past four and a bit years. London is my home town and prior to leaving in October 2019, I worked for a family for 3 and a half years, I was Ofsted registered and Paediatric First Aid trained, and I am happy to renew both of these qualifications upon finding the right family.
I have spent the last four years doing TEFL training and teaching in Madrid, Spain and then opening and running my own restaurant with my husband in West Cork, Ireland.
My family is Anglo-Chilean and as the daughter of a Primary school teacher (my father) and Nursery manager (my mother) I have had experience of childcare across a range of settings and cultures and this increased on my recent travels.
I have always loved taking care of children, I have a brother who is 9 years younger than me and adored helping my parents to take care of him. Due to my parents busy schdules I would often pick him up from Nursery when I myself was in Secondary school. This meant I had the opportunity from the age of 12 to start babysitting for all the parents I had met at my brother's Primary school. I started nannying full time as a profession when I was 19, and moved to Sydney, Australia. I have worked with 9 families and dealt with a wide range of children from 3 months to 12 years of age.
My own hobbies are painting, lino printing, practicing yoga, dressmaking, reading, hiking with my Irish Terrier and wild swimming. I have always enjoyed being creative and bring these skills into my work, for example using my skills at dressmaking to create costumes for my charges or setting up art projects. I have always loved to cook and I care a lot about nutrition.

My Experience

I initially started babysitting when I was 11 (for my younger brother) and this soon expanded to babysitting for my parents' friends on the weekends. I continued to babysit in the evenings and weekends throughout my schooling and once I had graduated I started nannying full time. I have completed a few childcare courses, Paediatric first aid training and enhanced DBS checks, as is required from Ofsted registered Nannies.
My childcare expierence so far:
• Babysitting 4 & 8 year old siblings (this continued over many years) in Stoke Newington
• Babysitting 3 year old twins in Hampstead
• Babysitting 20 month old boy with whom I used Baby Sign Language in Stoke Newington
• Nannying full time 14 month old Boy in Sydney
•Nannying and Mother's Help full time 3 siblings aged 3 years, 21 months and 3 months in Sydney.
• Nannying part time (Nanny share with another family) for 3 year old girl for 2 years in Walthamstow
•Nannying full time for 8 month and 3 year old siblings in Walthamstow for 3 and a half years
•TEFL teaching in Madrid for students age 15 and up
• Nannying for four sibling aged 2, 5, 10, 12 in Ireland
• Nannying and helping teach (during 2020/21 lockdown) siblings aged 4 and 10 in Ireland

Through my different experiences in childcare I feel confident in setting up good daily routines whether it be sleep patterns, potty training or meal times. I understand the importance of structure in creating a well balanced and safe environment for children to develop in. I am a firm believer in the importance of learning through play. I am accustomed to creating age appropriate activities and weekly schedules that help children develop in their cognitive, social, language and motor skills and keeping a daily log to track progress. I have worked a few overnights/ over weekend, but prefer to do these occasionally.

As I have just recently returned to the UK, my Ofsted registration is in need of renewal and I am happy to do so upon finding a family to work with. I have spent the last couple of years running my own restaurant with my Husband in West Cork, Ireland, so I have very good communication and organisation skills.
