About Me

I am a 21 year old student studying Drama at Liverpool John Moores University. I am from a small town in Northern Ireland called Bangor and live in Liverpool for the majority of the year for my degree. I am a fun, bubbly, creative and caring person

My Experience

Positive Futures; I was a volunteer at a charity called Positive Futures from the ages 16-19. This charity works with children with learning difficulties and special needs. I volunteered due to my uncle having downs syndrome and having grown up playing with children with learning difficulties. In my time with the charity I would go to arts and crafts days, trips out to museums, the cinema and other fun places, I was responsible for children's medication but most of all, to make sure they had fun!
Son Rise Programme; Through my work at Positive Futures I was recommended to a family to help with their son who has autism. This job involved me going to the families house two to three times a week for two hour one-on-one sessions with the child. The goal of the Son Rise Programme is to help draw an autistic child out of him/herself, allowing them to feel confident and new situations, to help build their eye-contact and to improve the child's speech. This job was highly rewarding as I grew such a bond with the child and his family and I watched him develop and become more confident around myself.
Work Experience; In my final year of school I did work experience in a special needs school called Torbank. I worked there for a week, helping the teacher throughout the day by taking children to the toilet, helping children with their work, playing games and doing special activities to help each child have a fun and interesting day.
Little Kingdom Kids; my mother owns a day care nursery in Bangor and due to my past experience in working with children she offered me a job for when I am home from Liverpool. I was given my Access NI Police Check in July 2016 and began working. I work in each different room working with children from 3 months old to 5 year olds. Our average day would involve changing nappies, eating throughout the day, going on long walks to the parks or libraries, doing arts and crafts, baking, reading and just generally playing games with the children. I really enjoyed this work as my day was filled with laughter and fun and I gained a close bond with each child and their parents.
