Jeanie
Childminder in Bedwas
My Summary
About Me
My name is Jeanie and I am a CIW registered childminder based in Bedwas. I provide a warm, safe and welcoming home based setting where children are encouraged to learn, play, explore and develop at their own pace.
Play is at the heart of everything we do at Rainbow Childcare. I believe children learn best when they feel happy, secure and valued, so I aim to create a relaxed, family centred environment where each child is treated as an individual.
I live with my husband and our seven children, so family life is very much at the centre of my setting. We also have two very friendly cats, Neko and Mao.
Our home is situated in a quiet street in Bedwas with ample parking for parents. Children have access to a lovely, homely downstairs space and a large enclosed garden, which is a big part of our daily play and learning. The garden includes swings, Wendy houses, slides, ride on toys, mud kitchens, water play, a planting area and a large covered patio area with seating.
We are also only a short walk from the local park and recreation ground, which gives children regular opportunities to enjoy fresh air, physical play, nature walks and local community experiences.
My Experience
I registered as a childminder on 3rd July 2014 and now have nearly 12 years’ experience providing childcare from my home. I also have 26 years’ personal experience as a mum, so caring for children, understanding family life and supporting children through different ages and stages has been a huge part of my life.
I hold a Level 3 qualification in Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development, as well as a first class honours degree in Hotel, Catering and Operational Management. This gives me a strong foundation in childcare, organisation, routines, food hygiene, safety, communication and creating a welcoming environment for families.
I have experience caring for children of different ages, abilities, personalities and developmental stages, including children with additional learning needs and developmental differences. I take an inclusive approach and adapt activities, routines and resources so that each child can join in, feel understood and develop at their own pace.
Safeguarding, first aid and children’s well-being are extremely important to me. I keep my training up to date and run Rainbow Childcare in line with CIW requirements and the National Minimum Standards for regulated childcare in Wales.
Above all, my experience has taught me that children flourish when they feel safe, settled, loved and valued. I aim to provide a calm, happy and homely setting where children can build confidence, enjoy their childhood and feel a real sense of belonging.
My Qualifications
Before becoming a childminder, I attended university and achieved a first class honours degree in Hotel, Catering and Operational Management. I then held a range of management roles within the hospitality industry, which gave me strong experience in organisation, leadership, food safety, communication, routines and creating welcoming environments.
I later became a registered childminder as it suited the needs of my family and allowed me to build a childcare setting that feels warm, homely and carefully run.
Relevant to childminding, I hold a Level 3 qualification in Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development, as well as a GCSE in Child Development, a Diploma in Food Hygiene and training in nutrition through my degree.
I also keep my training up to date in key areas including Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Additional Learning Needs. This helps me provide a safe, inclusive and well organised setting where children are supported as individuals and parents can feel confident that their child is in experienced, capable hands.

Jeanie is a very caring childminder who is brilliant with children of all ages. She organises fun activities with them, loves craft activities with the children, has lots of outdoor toys to enjoy and my son loves going to her.

I've been using Jeanie for childcare since my children were babies (they're now 8,10 and 12). Jeanie's is always extremely welcoming: she evidently loves and cares about the children she's looking after, which is really important to us. She works hard to ensure that they're happy doing things that they enjoy. I can trust her 100% and know she's honest and quick to raise any concerns. Highly recommend!
