Childminder in Thanet
My Summary
Chelcie's Childminding
About Me
STRONG STANDARD CHILDMINDER • OFSTED REGISTERED • DBS CHECKED • PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID TRAINED
Hello! I'm Chelcie, a 33-year-old Ofsted-registered childminder based in Margate, close to Salmestone Primary School. I'm also a mum to my ten-year-old daughter and have a BSc in Psychology.
I'm passionate about giving children the happiest, most nurturing start possible. My setting has a warm, home-from-home feel with a Hygge-inspired approach, where children are encouraged to feel safe, secure and confident enough to explore, learn and simply enjoy being little.
I strongly believe that young children learn best through play, real-life experiences and meaningful interactions. Our days include plenty of opportunities for messy and sensory play, stories and songs, imaginative play, creative activities, early communication and language, physical development and lots of time outdoors.
We also regularly get out into our local community for walks, adventures and outings, giving children experiences beyond the setting and helping them develop confidence and curiosity about the world around them.
Supporting children's emotional wellbeing and self-regulation is a particularly important part of my practice. Children are supported to understand and communicate their feelings, build positive relationships, develop independence and learn how to navigate the little challenges that come with growing up.
I have experience supporting children with SEND and differing developmental needs, and I adapt activities, routines and the environment so that every child can participate, progress and feel that they belong.
Our outdoor area includes a designated covered learning and play space, meaning outdoor exploration doesn't have to stop when the British weather inevitably appears! ?
Technology is kept to a minimum within my setting. Instead, I prioritise hands-on play, conversation, movement, creativity, outdoor experiences and opportunities for children to discover their own interests.
Above everything, I want children in my care to feel safe, valued, understood and excited to come through the door. My aim is to nurture confident, curious and resilient little people while working closely with their families throughout their early years.
If you'd like to know more about my setting, availability or approach, please feel free to message me through Childcare.co.uk and ask for my contact number. I'm always happy to have a chat. ?
My Experience
I have worked with children and families since I was 19, with experience spanning Early Years, primary education, SEND and social and emotional support.
Before childminding, I worked within schools as a Learning Mentor, supporting children from Reception through to Year 6. A significant part of my role involved delivering targeted social, emotional and behavioural interventions and helping children who needed additional support to feel secure, regulate their emotions, build relationships and successfully access learning.
I also worked within a Nurture Group for children in Reception to Year 2, providing a smaller, nurturing environment focused on emotional wellbeing, confidence, relationships and readiness to learn. Alongside my school experience, I have previously worked as bank staff within a nursery.
I have considerable experience supporting children with SEND, including autistic children and children with communication, sensory, emotional regulation and developmental needs. I use individualised strategies such as visual routines, transition support, sensory and regulation activities, clear and consistent boundaries, and adapting activities and the environment to meet each child's needs.
I also have experience supporting children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and recognise the importance of giving children different ways to communicate, participate and develop confidence.
I originally worked as a childminder for three years before taking time away to complete my BSc in Psychology. I returned to childminding in May 2024 and have continued to develop my knowledge and practice through working closely with young children at different stages of development.
My background in Psychology, education and Early Years has given me a particular interest in child development, communication, emotional regulation and inclusive practice. I believe behaviour is a form of communication, and I aim to understand what a child may be communicating through their behaviour rather than simply focusing on the behaviour itself.
I work closely with parents and, where appropriate, other professionals to identify children's strengths, recognise where additional support may be helpful and put practical strategies in place to help every child make progress at their own pace.
My Qualifications
I am committed to continuing my professional development and regularly undertake training to ensure my knowledge remains current and my practice continues to develop.
My qualifications and training include:
• BSc Psychology
• MA Inclusive and Special Education – University of Leeds (current)
• Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Diploma
• Level 3 Special Educational Needs Diploma
• Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Qualification
• Introduction to Childminding
• Hygge in the Early Years
• Level 1 Forest School Training – Manor House
• Read Write Inc. Phonics Training
• Paediatric First Aid
• Safeguarding Children
• Food Hygiene
• A Level Forensic Science – Grade A
• A Level Health and Social Care
• GCSEs – Grades A–C across a range of subjects
I am particularly interested in SEND, child development, emotional regulation, communication and inclusive Early Years practice, and these are areas in which I continue to develop my professional knowledge.
I am currently studying for my MA in Inclusive and Special Education at the University of Leeds, further developing my understanding of inclusive education and how children with differing needs can be effectively supported to participate, develop and thrive.
I regularly complete additional training and keep my knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding requirements and relevant guidance and legislation up to date. Continuing professional development is an important part of my practice, and I am always looking for ways to reflect upon and improve the experiences I provide for the children in my care.
My Availability
We are available from 8am-3.30pm Monday to Thursday. There could possibly be flexibility with these days and times, depending on notice and ratios. Because of the school run for my daughter, the children should be with me before 8.10am and either picked up before 2pm or after 3.30pm. Or else, they will remain with my registered assistant (my partner).
I am willing to do overtime if necessary if I can accommodate for this, but again I will need notice.
I will work all year round and will provide plenty of notice of holiday that I will take.
I currently have 1 space available.
My Fees
- Childminding from £6.50 per hour

Chelcie has been looking after my son since my return to work. She has made the wrench of leaving my little one so easy with pictures and little texts throughout the day. I can see he’s so happy, which makes leaving him so much easier.
He’s thriving in Chelcie’s care, developing well and reaching all the milestones he should. She offers him a stimulating and safe environment to be able to learn new things.
She’s recently taken on the afternoon school run to collect my 5 year old daughter as well and offers her a great setting to chill out after a hard day at school.
I could not be happier with the care she provides and would highly recommend her to any parent.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments:)
My child uses Chelcie’s service twice a week, and she is thriving. Her speech has come along so much since using Chelcie. I couldn’t have trusted anyone better. Her little pack I of how far she’s come is always good to look at. The activities Chelcie does are amazing learning and sensory. I would highly recommend.
