My Summary
About Me
I have always had a passion for working with children with an interest in child development and promoting the social, emotional and academic wellbeing of a child (whether this is through reading, play, modelling behaviour etc) and I believe that this process is unique for every child. My passion for working with children has most probably originated from both of my parents working in public services and in the pastoral teams in various local schools. Having graduated with a degree in 'Psychology in Education' from the 'University of York' has now led me to enter a teaching career. I have worked in a secondary school as a learning support assistant and 'Health and Social Care' teacher. In this particular school the students required one - to - one support to regulate their emotions and reduce the academic impact of gaps that the students experienced in their education. I have worked with students with additional needs including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and PTSD, to name just a few. Alongside this role I spent some time leading workshops in infants schools to help transition students from infants school (year 2) to junior school (year 3) as this can often be a challenging change that can cause anxiety and worry for students. I went on to become a Head of Social Sciences within a secondary school for 4 years, working closely with transitioning students from primary to secondary school, and GCSE to sixth form. I am currently an apprenticeship tutor, upskilling current TAs in SEND needs to gain their Assistant SENCO qualification. I am caring, proactive, patient and pride myself on my dedication to anything I do. I also own a car, have a UK driving license and a DBS check.
My Experience
I have babysat from a young age for various families with children of varying ages from 1 years old to year 7. I have also worked in many local primary schools assisting teachers, leading workshops and activities with small groups and individuals (e.g. reading, sports activities, discussions and arts and crafts). During university I also worked with 'SNAPPY' in York which is an organisation that co-ordinates activities for children with a variety of learning and physical disabilities over the weekend. I have worked at 'Stevenage Education Support Centre' as a 'learning support assistant', 'infant transition worker' and 'Health and Social Care teacher', then completing my PGCE at The University of Hertfordshire in Social Sciences. I now have experience in SEND, with expertise in this which enable me to adapt (and teach others to adapt) based on need.
My Qualifications
I have 11 GCSE's achieving 3 A grades and 8 B grades. Additionally I have gained 1 AS level in Health and Social Care alongside 3 A-level qualifications in Geography, Psychology and Philosophy and Ethics - obtaining B grades in these A level subjects. I then went on to complete a degree in 'Psychology in Education' and have furthered this by completing CPD in safeguarding and protective behaviours. I am a qualified teacher.
