=== Looking for someone to start mid October, but do ad hoc babysitting before then===
Our amazing AuPair of 5 yrs is leaving us.
About Our Family
We are a friendly family based on the high street in Burwash.
We have two children—a girl (10) and a boy (8)—who are on the shy side, so we’re looking for someone kind, patient, and warm to help them feel comfortable. We’d love to find someone who becomes a trusted part of our family routine.
The Role
This is a live-out, part-time position providing after-school and evening childcare during term time, with the possibility of additional hours during school holidays. There are core hours, with optional extras depending on availability.
Hours Breakdown
Tue, Wed & Thu evenings: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Core (essential)
Wed extended (with driving) 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm Optional – school pick-up
Tue–Thu mornings 6:15 am – 7:45 am Optional – if available
One evening (Thursday or Wednesday most weeks) To be agreed Optional – babysitting (most weeks)
School holidays Optional – extra hours
Key Responsibilities
• Picking the children up from their school bus stop (the Bear Inn, Burwash) and supervising the children
• Helping with the evening routine—light homework support, preparing simple meals or snacks, prompting teeth brushing and a shower
• Babysitting most weeks, including reading a bedtime story and settling the children into bed
• On days worked, ideally emptying the dishwasher and wiping over the kitchen surfaces and possibly helping us with a load of kids laundry once a week
• School pick-up on Wednesdays (for someone who can drive)
• Engaging the children in age-appropriate activities and play
What We’re Looking For
• A kind, patient, and gentle manner—our children are shy and need time to warm up
• Reliability and good communication
• Experience with primary-school-age children (preferred but not essential)
• A driving licence (preferred but not essential—opens up the Wednesday pick-up option from Hawkurst)
• A warm, flexible attitude and willingness to become part of the family’s routine
Pet free home, though there are horses on the property outside. If you’re a horse lover, there may be the chance to get involved (entirely optional and no horse care is required).
Practical Details
• Location: Burwash village (high street), East Sussex
• Start date: Early September 2026
• Driving licence: Preferred but not essential
• Pay: dependant on experience
