About Me
Hello, my name is Ellen and I have been a registered childminder in Lewes for the last 30 years. I have two children, now aged 29 and 23 and I live with my husband. I work with my daughter Chloe, who is fully qualified to the same level as I am, and is my OFSTED registered assistant.
My Experience
I have been working with children since I left school, training as a Nursery Nurse and eventually becoming a Nursery Manager. I then decided to become a registered childminder when I had my daughter in 1994, allowing me to continue my career in childcare whilst raising my own children. I then fell in love with childminding and have never looked back. Now nearly 30 years on, we have adapted our home to create a playroom for my ever growing business.
I follow the EYFS curriculum which allows me to encourage each child individually to achieve their own potential. I do this by providing stimulating activities both at my setting and also give the children many opportunities to explore the local environment with regular trips to local parks, soft play, library, museums, trips on public transport and farms to name but a few. I am always child lead in my approach to teaching the children, following their interests and have a very gentle but encouraging nature , enabling them to feel confident in their own abilities, becoming confident and independent children able to make friends and feel included in our day to day activities.
After many years of having consistent ‘Good’ Ofsted grades, I am delighted to say that this year I was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ grade in all areas for the service I provide.

Ellen is an exceptional childminder and has looked after my 2.5 year old boy since he was 7 months old. I have felt so at ease with dropping him to Ellen that it has been like passing him over to a member of my family. Ellen is so capable, confident and fun! She has so much energy and enthusiasm for looking after the children and always has wonderful trips planned. My energetic little boy has been kept on his toes and stimulated by the environments that they go to. He has also learnt excellent boundaries with her. For example, he stays close and behaves well when walking near roads as she has encouraged safety when they go out.
Ellen has also offered me amazing support as a first time mum! We have a laugh when I drop him off and she offers advice if needed on things like potty training or the dummy fairy.
Ellen's recent 'Excellent' ofsted report comes as no surprise - she has been the perfect childminder for my little boy and I can't recommend her highly enough.

I have known Ellen for over 13 years and she has looked after both my children. I would not have had it any other way. As soon as I knew I was pregnant with my son I called Ellen to book his space! My son is now 3 and loves going to Ellen's.
Working full time and trying to keep on top of everything has only been possible because I have never had a moments worry, when the children are with Ellen. Her years of experience and invaluable help and advise have continued to help me navigate the sometimes tricky path that is parenting! From tantrums to potty training!
By far the best decision I ever made for my children was hiring Ellen as my childminder.

Ellen looks after my daughters, now 3.5 yrs and 7 months. She is brilliant, providing a range of activities and experiences for the children (crafts, days out, walks, parks), whilst providing more focussed attention than perhaps a nursery. Both my daughters love going to Ellen's. Communication is fantastic, and Ellen keeps a learning journey for each child with lots of detail about their development and how it maps to EYFS curriculum. I could not recommend Ellen highly enough.
