About Me

Hi. My name is Suzie Swann I have a small childcare business called "little cygnets". I have been an Ofsted registered childminder for nearly 20 years. In my most recent Ofsted inspection ( 2024) I was graded a strong "good". which I was over the moon with!!

I have over 30 years of childcare experience from previous jobs at nurseries and as a nanny. After starting my own family, I knew I wanted to be a stay at home mum with Toby (now 19) and Jacob (now 16) so the most obvious route was to become a childminder. This allowed me to still offer my skills and experience to parents looking for childcare.

I believe if a child is in a calm, nurturing, fun and safe home from home setting they will thrive and learn.
I provide educational and creative activities for the children. These include adult led & child led craft activities, occasional baking, sensory play, regular story and songs.
I have an excellent range of toys, puzzles and books catering for all ages in the playroom.
When ever possible I go out to the local parks, Rutland Water, Burghley House, Farms, toddler groups and use other amenities such as the library and soft play areas.
I think that children benefit from new experiences and getting out and about with other childminder colleagues and regularly attending toddler groups helps the children make friends, play, interact with children of various ages and gives them a regular routine.

I aim to provide a safe, stimulating, caring and fun environment for children.

My Experience

I have over 30 years of childcare experience during which I have worked fulltime as a nanny for several families and a nursery nurse in nursery settings, working with children ranging from newborn babies to 18 year olds. References available on request.

Ofsted Good Provider Logo
Good
18 July 2024
Children form strong, positive relationships with their childminder in this good-quality setting. The childminder supports children's development effectively across communication, language and physical skills, whilst babies particularly benefit from secure bonding experiences during care routines. Children learn about healthy eating through hands-on gardening activities, growing and harvesting their own fruit for snacks. The childminder demonstrates commitment to inclusive practice through specialist training for supporting children with additional needs, and maintains good communication with parents. However, there is scope to improve by minimising distractions during planned activities to help children maintain better focus and attention.

Our baby was only 8 months old when he began with Suzie. Initially we were quite apprehensive about him beginning in a setting as he was very dependant on us at home. However the slot was available and we really wanted him to be with a childminder for a range of reasons.

Our son instantly settled with Suzie and there was never any tears from day one. We’d be lucky for a wave goodbye! Suzie has created such a warm and loving home setting that it is clear the children thoroughly love their time there. There a real love between both Suzie and the children as well as amongst the children.

Suzie was amazing at taking them on so many adventures and mixing with a host of different children from different settings. They would often visit different parks, Rutland Water, Burghley and so on. This has enormously helped with our son to be confident in a range of settings. Suzie has also been very dependable over the past 2 years and has been a real constant in our lives.

He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with Suzie and the only reason is to move to begin a pre school alongside his older sister. I will however not miss pick ups when it was a real battle to try and get him to leave to come home!! He just loved being there amongst his peers and friends too much.

Thank you again Suzie.

Thankyou Jade 😊

My son currently attends Little Cygnets with Suzie and I couldn't reccomend her enough! As a child practitioner myself I knew I wanted to find the very best care for my baby and choosing Suzie was the best decision. She is warm, friendly, kind and fun! My son adores her and has learnt so so much at Little Cygnets as well as forming some lovely friendships with the other children. I love the fact that Little Cygnets is at Suzie's home, my son sees it at his 2nd home and is so comfortable there! Suzie has a beautiful garden and I love to see my son playing outside in the sunshine with all the amazing toys & games she offers. She has fantastic communication and uses tapestry to send pictures and updates of all the exciting things hes been doing and the places he has been. Suzie takes the children to farms, parks, groups, woods and gives them so many experiences. I trust her 100% and I know while I'm at work my son is in the safest hands and having the best time! ❤
