My Experience

I have been working with children in various different roles for several years at this point.
I have experience as a babysitter, which I have been providing a babysitting service for families in my neighborhood since 2010 on and off, where I have looked after children during the evenings and some afternoons while parents have been away, as well as staying during the night on some occasions. I have provided entertainment, put children to bed and supervised play.

I have experience as a voluntary classroom assistant within a year 2 class at a local primary school, which I did for two years, where I would read with children, take out small groups and provide assistance during learning. I have also volunteered in a reception class and a year 1 class where I provided assistance during learning, encouraged participation and good listening, helped with wider school activities such as sports day and assemblies and ensuring a safe classroom environment.

I have 4 years of experience as a midday supervisor at a local primary school, supervising children whilst in the dinner hall and on the school playground or field and providing basic first aid where needed. During this role, I also provided 1 - 1 support for a child with Downs Syndrome, where I was responsible for ensuring she stayed where she was supposed to, encouraged participation, dealt with bad behaviour and supported her in any other ways she may have needed.

I was also a co-leader at my local Rainbows group from 2015 to 2023 (until our unit had to shut down due to lack of adult volunteers), where we played games, did crafts, learnt life skills and went on outings.

I also have 7 months experience as an afterschool nanny for two boys aged 7 and 11 where I would provide school pick up, supervise and help with homework, provide snacks and play with the kids while the parents were working. During the school holidays I would come for the whole day until early evening and provide entertainment for the boys during the day, make lunch and sometimes dinner, deal with arguments and bad behaviour and sometimes arrange trips to the park down the road. I also provided homeschool tutor services to the same family during the lockdowns from the COVID-19 pandemic when schools were closed, supervising school work set by the class teachers and teaching subjects such as maths, English, science and art. We would also make sure to do regular physical activity to provide PE type exercise.

Most recently I have been an before/after school nanny for 3 children (but one in particular due to age and school differences) where I was responsible for unloading the dishwasher, clearing up after breakfast, occupying the children before school, taking to school, picking up from school, taking to after school activities and communicating with their mother as to their whereabouts and anything else which may be required.
