My Summary

My Experience

I have experience across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2. I resigned from my most recent full time post as Headteacher of a primary school to return to my first love of teaching and now tutor children alongside working part time as a teacher.

Since I qualified as a teacher in 1996, I have tutored primary aged children in Reading, Writing and Maths. I have also supported many children through Y6 SATs and with the transition to secondary school. I offer tuition in my own home, the pupil's home and online.

I hold a current DBS.

Before I begin tutoring, I hold an initial session with the child and their parents/carers. In this session, I assess the child's needs and talk to them and their parents/carers about their current attainment, the support that they would like and how this can be achieved. I am then able to formulate individual plans and targets for teaching the child. I tailor my lessons to suit the needs and interests of the child and aim to make my lessons as creative as possible using ICT to enhance learning where beneficial. I firmly believe that children succeed when they are interested and motivated in their learning. Lessons are spent primarily with me teaching or working through a problem with a child as there's little benefit in a child working through a task independently with me sitting watching. At the end of the lesson, I provide homework tasks when required and give monthly updates on progress and next steps in learning.

As a mother, a Primary School Teacher and an experienced tutor, I understand how difficult it can be to support your own child in their learning therefore I will also support with school homework and extra reading when required.

My Qualifications

I have a BEd (Hons) in Primary Education. I also have a current DBS.

My Availability

I am available each evening after school and also on a weekend.

My Fees

• Tutoring from £40.00 per hour

I offer 1:1 tuition either face to face or online. My sessions are usually 1 hour long but the length of time can be amended to suit the needs of the individual child. I am also able to offer small group sessions to children of a similar age/ability and also offer a sibling discount.
