Welcome to Susan Old's Childminding
Hello, my name is Susan Old, and I have been a registered childminder since 19 January 1999.
Ofsted Inspection (22 July 2025)
My most recent Ofsted inspection took place on 22 July 2025, where I received a Good judgement for overall effectiveness, with Good in all areas including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
I live in the delightful village of East Harling with my husband. We have three grown-up children and are proud grandparents to five wonderful grandchildren.
I am a PACEY Registered Childminder and hold appropriate Public Liability Insurance, along with home and car insurance suitable for childminding. My husband and I have both completed enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
A Home from Home
My aim is to provide a warm, safe, caring and friendly home-from-home environment where every child feels valued, secure and happy. I understand how important it is for parents to feel confident that their child is being cared for in a nurturing setting where they can learn, play and thrive.
My Setting
I work from my family home, which offers a welcoming environment both indoors and outdoors.
Our large, secure enclosed garden provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning and physical play. Children enjoy access to a wide variety of outdoor equipment, including:
• Ride-on toys
• A large wooden playhouse
• A Little Tikes climbing frame with two slides
• Balls, outdoor games and imaginative play resources
• Seasonal activities and nature exploration
Inside, I provide a wide range of educational and age-appropriate toys and resources that encourage learning through play.
Learning Through Play
I believe children learn best when they are having fun. Every day includes opportunities for both child-led play and adult-guided activities, helping children develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.
Activities may include:

• Arts and crafts
• Painting
• Play dough
• Story time
• Circle time
• Music and movement
• Construction toys
• Puzzles and games
• Small world play
• Imaginative role play
• Seasonal and themed activities
My setting provides a caring learning environment where every child is encouraged to develop at their own pace.
Outdoor Adventures
I enjoy taking children out into the local community, where they can explore and learn through real-life experiences. Outings may include:
• Nature walks
• Local parks
• Indoor play centres
• Feeding the ducks
• Seasonal trips and community activities
• Visits to local places of interest
These outings help children develop confidence, social skills and an appreciation of the world around them.
Working in Partnership with Parents
I strongly believe that children achieve the best outcomes when parents and childminders work together. I work closely with every family to ensure each child's individual needs, interests and routines are respected.
Parents are always welcome to visit my setting, discuss their child's progress and share any information that helps me provide the very best care.
School and Nursery Runs
I provide school and nursery drop-offs and collections for East Harling Primary School.
This helps provide continuity of care for families and supports children throughout their day.
Inclusive Care
I welcome all children and offer a caring, inclusive environment. Where possible, I am happy to support children with additional needs and will always work closely with parents and other professionals to meet each child's individual requirements.
Why I Became a Childminder
I chose to become a childminder because I genuinely enjoy working with children. Raising my own three children gave me valuable experience in supporting children's learning and development both at home and through everyday experiences.
Before becoming a childminder, I regularly volunteered at my local playgroup and nursery, further strengthening my passion for helping children learn and grow.
I pride myself on being honest, reliable, organised and punctual, and I strive to provide the highest standard of care for every family.
