About Me
I am looking for a caring, compassionate, fun individual who has experience of looking after a child with autism. I need childcare for my lovely son Teddy who is 5 during the school holidays while I work. It would only be for 4/5 hours at a time initially and just a few days a week during school breaks.
Teddy is an amazingly creative little boy and loves to draw, build things, paint and basically enjoys any sensory based activity which includes getting messy!! ? He is a vibrant and wonderful character who loves to meet people but struggles with social norms as expected.
Teddy needs a 1:1 at all times in order to keep him safe as his danger perception is very limited. It’s important to keep him engaged doing activities that he loves. If out and about he needs reigns and constant supervision as he can run off so I think until trust and confidence is built in who looks after him we would want someone to come to our home to have him while I work.
Teddy is verbal. He struggles when things do not go the way he wants them to and we are working hard on his triggers. Teddy can have meltdowns and I would share what we do to help calm him with whoever comes to look after him. These are getting less as his communication skills grow.
My Requirements
It’s really important to us to find someone who has either lived experience with an autistic child or someone who has appropriate training/experience with SEN children.
We have never had anyone look after Teddy apart from nursery/school staff but we would really like to find someone who could build a relationship with Teddy long term who can look after him during the holidays and perhaps at other times as he is getting older. We would also like to build our support network as Teddy only has me and his Dad who provides all of his care.
