About Me
Hi, I’m Clare, the owner of Jurassic Journeys Childminding in Kirkby. I live with my 4½-year-old son Reuben and provide a warm, home-from-home environment where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn through play.
As a qualified Primary School Teacher and Early Years Practitioner with over 20 years’ experience working with babies and young children, I am passionate about helping every child develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning. I believe children learn best when they feel secure, supported and able to follow their own interests, and I take time to build strong relationships with both children and their families.
My setting is child-led, nurturing and inclusive, with a strong focus on outdoor learning, curiosity and exploration. I carefully plan experiences around each child’s individual interests and stage of development, while providing consistent routines and gentle boundaries that help children feel secure.
The main playroom offers a wide variety of open-ended resources to encourage creativity, imaginative play and problem-solving. Children also have access to an outdoor learning space where they can enjoy water and messy play, sand play, climbing equipment, obstacle courses, mark-making opportunities and nature-based activities that support both gross and fine motor development.
Within my home I have a dedicated quiet area where children can relax, read books, enjoy sensory activities or simply take some time away from the busier play environment. I recognise that every child has different sensory and emotional needs, and I aim to provide spaces where they can feel calm, regulated and comfortable.
I love spending time outdoors, whether that’s exploring local parks, spotting wildlife, growing plants or simply enjoying fresh air and active play. I also enjoy introducing simple mindfulness, breathing and relaxation activities to help children recognise and regulate their emotions in a fun and age-appropriate way.
Communication is incredibly important to me. I have recently completed training in Makaton for Early Years settings and use a range of communication strategies, including visual supports and gestures, to help children develop their language, understanding and confidence. I am committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels listened to, understood and supported to communicate in the way that works best for them.
I hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have a family SUV fitted with extended rear-facing car seats. Wherever possible we enjoy walking to local parks, libraries and community activities, using the car for longer outings and educational trips that broaden children’s experiences beyond the setting.
At Jurassic Journeys, my aim is for every child to feel happy, confident and inspired to learn, play and grow every day.
My Experience
I have over 20 years’ experience working with babies and children from birth to 12 years of age across a variety of early years and educational settings, including private day nurseries, primary schools and home-based childcare.
Throughout my career I have supported many children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with autism and sensory processing differences. I believe every child is unique and deserves an individual approach. By getting to know each child’s interests, strengths and developmental stage, I tailor learning experiences that help them make good progress while building confidence, independence and a love of learning.
As a qualified Primary School Teacher and Early Years Practitioner, I am passionate about providing high-quality learning through play. I carefully plan engaging experiences around children’s interests, recognising that children learn best when they are motivated, curious and having fun. My days include plenty of outdoor learning, active play, exploration and real-life experiences, whatever the weather, helping children develop resilience, independence and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and have completed Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (including the use of a defibrillator), Food Hygiene and Food Safety training, and recently completed Makaton for Early Years training to further support inclusive communication. I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly undertake training to ensure my knowledge and practice remain current, enabling me to provide the highest quality care and education for every child.

There aren’t enough words to thank Clare for everything she has done for our family over the past two years.
From the moment Noah started with her, she has treated him with so much love, patience and understanding. As a child with additional needs, finding someone who truly accepts and supports him is priceless, and Clare has done exactly that. She has always made him feel safe, happy and cared for, and he’s formed such a special bond with her. I Know he’s going to miss her so much when he leaves next week.
Clare has also been an incredible support to me as a parent. She’s always been there with reassurance, kindness and encouragement, You can see how passionate she is about what she does, and every child in her care is treated as if they were her own.
We feel so lucky that Noah had the opportunity to be with Clare, and we’ll always be grateful for the love, care and memories she’s given him any family would be incredibly lucky to have her. ❤️

Thank you so much for your beautiful review Jenn 🥹❤️ It has been such a privilege to care for Noah and watch him grow over the last two years. I’ll miss him so much, but I’m incredibly proud of how far he’s come and can’t wait to hear all about his new adventures at school. Thank you for trusting me with someone so special. Wishing your family all the very best for the future. 💙🦖
My boy has been part of Clare’s little dinos since September. We were going through a lot of changes in our family routine, all we needed is space for our boy where he can settle in quickly and I there is nothing to worry about. We have known Clare for a while and she has always surprised me of her patience, care and confidence when it comes to kids. She always have tools and advice for some challenging milestones. Our boys first language is not English and it has never made any difference in their communication. We are really pleased!

Awww thank you Linda, this is so lovely. We love having Gus as part of our dino family and will miss him so much when he moves on and the rest of your gorgeous family xx
I feel really lucky to of found Clare to look after my little boy Noah. Noah has been going to Clare’s since September and has settled in so well I never thought I’d see him running into a setting - Clare is very caring, professional and has created a real home from home feeling. I love that she keeps me updated throughout the day with pictures and a diary on what he has eaten through the app she provides.
Noah is a much happier boy since he has been coming to Clare’s and is gaining so much confidence and is picking up sign language that she teaches him as he is currently non verbal.
I would recommend Clare to anyone looking for a childcare as she is just amazing with my little boy xx
