About Me

My name is Morgan,

I'm a professional artist and work as a creative educator (with a therapeutic element) and have over 20 years experience of working with children aged 1-18 years old. I am 42 years old and have a creative, positive, calm and fun approach to childcare.

My experience:
I have worked with children and young people in different settings (in family homes, schools, colleges, youth clubs, playwork centres and after school clubs). I'm a qualified art teacher (Institute of Education, 2012), but I realised I prefer working 1:1 or with smaller groups and I have been working with children as a creative playworker and babysitter since 2015. I am very creative and fun but also responsible and reliable. I have worked in settings where respectful and consistent behaviour management is essential and have found slotting into family rules and routines when working with families in the past very straightforward and effective. I have taught in mainstream and SEN schools, worked as a childminder for families in the UK, as an EAL tutor abroad, taught in a Krishnamurti school and set up creative education programmes for refugee children in Greece. I have worked in environments where I have developed very positive behaviour encouragement strategies and use humour and creativity to work around challenges. My perceptiveness and experience enables me to develop trusting professional relationships with children. I previously worked part time with WECIL, working with neuro and mobility diverse children and young adults (age 8- 16). I also worked as a private tutor with children and young adults in the care system (through Equal Education Social Enterprise).

My availability:
I am a freelance artist (with around 4- 5 commissions per year, which always pause over summer). I teach art at a university in Oxford 1 day per week and at UWE 1 day per week and I work with 2 families on Thursdays during term times. All these commitments will pause in July, leaving me free to work as a childminder/ babysitter over the summer (July, August and into September).

Paperwork:
I have a current DBS (enhanced check) that covers my work in domestic and educational settings. I have Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy PGDip (non clinical) through the Tavistock and Portman Trust which enhances my trauma-informed approach. I also have a PGCE in Art & Design.
