Temporary SEND Learning & Support Assistant – 1:1 Primary

Location: Woodley, Reading
Hours: Monday–Friday term-time, 1.15pm–6.00pm
Pay: £16–£20 per hour, depending on experience

About the role:
We are looking for a warm, energetic and experienced SEND Learning & Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a bright, curious and sociable 9-year-old child with autism and ADHD.

The role combines structured home-based learning with practical and creative activities, swimming, sport, outdoor activities, local social and educational opportunities, and educational trips.

We are looking for someone who can make learning enjoyable, build confidence and independence, and provide a varied and engaging programme tailored to the child's individual needs, interests and pace of learning.

Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support with English, maths, reading/comprehension and wider learning.
- Plan engaging practical activities, including cooking, baking, crafts and science projects.
- Support attention, organisation, emotional regulation, independence and everyday life skills.
- Accompany and support the child with regular swimming/activities.
- Organise appropriate educational, sporting, social and outdoor activities.
- Support participation in suitable local groups and community activities.
- Drive to and from agreed activities and appointments.
- Adapt learning and activities according to the child's needs, interests and progress.
- Occasionally assist with collection/drop-off of an older sibling and engage both children in appropriate activities when required.

About you
You will ideally have experience as an SEN TA, LSA, HLTA, learning mentor or in a similar SEND role.

You should have experience supporting primary-aged children with autism and/or ADHD and be confident working independently on a 1:1 basis.

We are particularly interested in someone who is positive, patient, energetic and creative and who enjoys practical, active and outdoor learning.

Essential requirements:
- Relevant SEND experience.
- Experience working with children.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and access to your own car.
- Appropriate motor insurance for work-related journeys/transporting children.
- Comfortable swimming and participating in physical activities.
- Enhanced DBS/DBS Update Service, or willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS before commencing unsupervised work.
- Two satisfactory professional references, including the most recent relevant employer.
Right to work in the UK.

Contract:
Normal hours will be during term time, Monday–Friday, 1.15pm–6.00pm, although some flexibility may occasionally be required by prior agreement.

The role is initially for one month, with a review after two weeks, and may continue on a rolling monthly basis while longer-term educational arrangements are finalised.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview. Any appointment will be subject to satisfactory safeguarding and pre-engagement checks.
