My Summary

My Experience

Last year during my gap year I worked as a live in 'au pair' in Edinburgh. I looked after two girls aged 6 and 18 months all day 4 days a week. My responsibilities included getting the girls ready for the day, taking the eldest to school, going to playgroups with the toddler and taking her on daytrips, making lunch, tidying up after the girls, helping with homework and planning after school activities. I would also babysit in the evenings for the girls when I would make the girls dinner, give them a bath and put them to bed, I'm still very close with this family and am still involved in the girls life. Before my year as an au pair I babysat regularly for a single mum with two girls, the girls are now 9 and 13 and I still babysit the girls occasionally and support them when I can. I've also babysat casually for other families with little boys and girls ranging from ages 8 months to 10 years. I also volunteered for a charity called Interest Links for two years, Interest Links is a befriending service for people with learning disabilities. As a volunteer at the children’s group I helped our service users doing activities such as arts and crafts, baking and acting exercises. I was mainly there as someone for the kids to talk to and have fun within a safe space.

My Qualifications

I'm first aid trained, specifically for children and babies and I have also been PVG checked.

My Availability

As I'm currently participating online classes there a few times a week when I can't work due to live classes, other than this I'm almost any time, but would need to leave time to do my independant work. I estimate that I would be able to work 15 - 20 hours in any one week, possibly less when I come to exam times in early February and May.
