Hello! My name is Maya and I am a 24-year-old student currently undertaking a PGCE Primary at the University of Manchester. I live in Stockport.
I grew up in Oxford in a trilingual family where we spoke French, Danish, and English at home, so I am fluent in all three languages.
I am a creative, energetic, optimistic, kind, and sensitive person whose main passion has always been looking after, playing with, and teaching children.
I strongly believe in respecting children and their personal space/boundaries.
I love to learn alongside children, whether it be exploring their imagination and creativity through arts & crafts, going on nature walks, trying new things together, playing games, etc.
I always aim to nurture and teach them something new every day. I am an excellent listener and will always aim to gently push children to explore their curiosity and expand their experiences.
I strongly believe that I would be a positive addition to any family.
My Experience
I took three years out of formal education before starting university in order to explore my interests and get a head-start in the world of teaching and childcare.
During Sixth Form I had a part-time job as an After School Club assistant, which I did alongside my A-Levels. Once I graduated from school in 2019, the school I worked at promoted me so I worked as a full-time Teaching Assistant for a year (specifically in a mixed year 1 & 2 class).
Halfway through the year, I began working as a 1-on-1 SEN TA for two young boys (both aged 5), which was both challenging and fulfilling. I would like to expand my knowledge and experience with SEN children, and I believe my empathy, hyper-awareness of children's needs, and calm demeanor make me a good candidate in this regard.
It ended up being one of the best years of my life so far and solidified my desire to pursue Primary School Teaching as my career after uni. I also became one of two main supervisors in the After School Club, where I led and planned activities and snack time for over 40 children every afternoon, ranging from nursery age to year six.
I then worked as a full-time nanny (live out) for a year for a couple of wonderful families with whom I am still very close to. The children were 9 months, 4 years, and 8 years old. Duties included school pickup, preparing snacks and dinner, reading, playing, and handling emotional outbursts, difficult days at school, etc.
Prior to my gap years, I volunteered at a refuge for street children (aged 5-12) in Senegal for a summer during Sixth Form. I have also worked as a babysitter for neighbouring families from the age of 14.
I am now a PGCE primary student where I will undertake my training to become a primary school teacher.
My Qualifications
2.1 Degree in English Literature from the University of Leeds.
A-Levels in English Literature, History, French, and Geography.
My Availability
I am looking for part-time/ad-hoc work. Babysitting jobs will be given priority!
I am in university/placement Monday-Friday so I can only do evenings and weekends. Availability might be possible during school holidays if they line up with the school I am working at.
