About Me
Hi, I’m Ash! Welcome to Firefly Childminding.
I am a highly experienced childminder based in Oakridge, near the centre of Basingstoke, offering a warm, engaging, and home-from-home environment where children can safely learn, play, and thrive. As a male childcare professional with over two decades in the early years sector, I am proud to offer a unique, energetic setting that provides children with a positive male role model and a well-rounded approach to their early development.
I primarily offer childcare from Monday to Thursday, but I also provide overnight and weekend care, as well as school and home pickups across the local area.
Outside of my daily childminding, I am passionate about the outdoors and hands-on learning. I love taking nature walks and exploring local spots like Thatcham Lakes and Alice Holt, a love for the outdoors that I actively bring into my daily childcare routines. I also keep a freshwater tropical aquarium at home, which is a fantastic, calming way for the children to learn about nature, and I enjoy building technology and home projects. We also visit many toddler groups and my aim is get the children experiencing as much as possible away from the setting.

My Experience
I have dedicated my entire career to early years education and development. With over 20 years of professional experience, I bring a level of expertise and reassurance that parents can completely rely on. My background spans a wide variety of roles, including nursery manager, nanny, teacher, private tutor, and more. This diverse foundation means I am highly adaptable and fully equipped to support children from newborns up to 16 years old, across all abilities, needs, and backgrounds.
I am also incredibly proud to be the active Squirrel Scouts Leader for the 24th Basingstoke West group. Working with children aged 4 to 6, I organize weekly activities, badge work, outdoor hikes, and even overnight sleepovers at our local scout hut. This role allows me to help young children build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop a genuine love for the outdoors in a safe, structured environment.
To support my practical experience, I hold two degrees in Early Years, an NVQ in Childcare, and up-to-date paediatric first aid certification. I also continuously invest in my professional development—including recent coursework toward the Award in Education and Training—to ensure my practice remains at the highest possible standard.

We honestly couldn’t be happier with the care Ash & Claire provide for our daughter. From the very beginning, they’ve created such a warm, safe, and nurturing environment that truly feels like a home away from home.
The level of personal care they give is exceptional – they take the time to understand her needs, her personality, and what makes her happy. It’s so reassuring knowing she’s not just being looked after, but genuinely cared for and valued as an individual.
What really sets them apart are the amazing experiences they give the children. From fun days out to creative activities, every day is filled with excitement, learning, and laughter. Our daughter always comes home full of stories, and it’s clear how much she enjoys her time with them.
Ash & Claire go above and beyond in every way, and we feel incredibly lucky to have found them. We couldn’t recommend them more highly to any parent looking for truly outstanding childcare.
