About Me

I am a 4th-year university student (almost graduated) in the Abbeyhill area, who is looking for a part time/ad-hoc nanny role. I am currently studying a course in Psychology and Sociology with the hopes of continuing on to a master's in counselling and eventually becoming a qualified children's councillor. Alongside my studies, I also enjoy hobbies such as playing for my universities women's rugby team and participating in different volunteering programmes. Additionally, I also spend my free time reading, writing poetry and painting. I am the eldest of 3 children with my youngest sibling being 9 years my junior, I, therefore, have a lot of informal experience with looking after young children. I have looked after children in a range of capacities throughout my working career, from babysitting to summer camps and I would like to continue on this path. My most recent experience is as a part time nanny for two boys (2 & 5). I am willing to learn and adapt to new situations in order to offer the people I work with the right services they need. I consider myself to be a person with a strong motherly instinct and believe that pursuing a nannying role will not only fulfil my passion for working with children on a personal level but also hopefully help me gain even more invaluable experience that I can use towards my goals in helping children professionally in the future.

I am able to provide proof of my up to date DBS background check, as well as relevant childcare references.

My Experience

Camp councillor (2019) - I held the position of group leader at an American summer day camp in Brooklyn for 2.5 months as part of the Camp America Cultural Exchange Programme. My co-leader and I looked after a group of 4 to 6-year-olds for the 8 weeks of summer camp, my group was called 'Bakers Acres'. My role as group leader included many different responsibilities. One of these was collecting children from a specific subway stop every morning and bringing them to Prospect Park, where the majority of the day's activities commenced. I would also drop the children off at this same subway stop to be collected by their parents at the end of the day. While in the park my role was to monitor, play with and lead the children in activities that I had organised previously. Every week I would, along with the help of my co-leader, programme the next week's activities in the park and ensure they were tailored towards my age group. Each week revolved around a different theme, for example, if the theme was sewing and textiles, my programmes would have to reflect this theme and include activities that related to it. As a group leader, I was also required to take my group to the swimming pool once a week and monitor them on day trips around the city every two weeks. Another responsibility I had was taking my group to the Trail Blazers overnight camp in New Jersey every 2 weeks for a day trip, while we were there I would lead my group in activities such as boating, swimming and archery. Lastly, I would help my group prepare for events that were led by the camp as a whole, such as making outfits for the fashion show and preparing a song for the talent show. I received a week of training for this role when I first arrived in America as well as extra training on Saturday mornings for a few hours throughout the 8 weeks. During the summer I received an honourable mention for my work with my group for one week, as well as the 'Trail Blazer of the Week' award for another.

After-school club volunteer (2019)- I have volunteered at my former after-school club at Stow Primary School, mainly in preparation for my summer abroad. My main role was to help the coordinator look after, supervise, and play with the children until their parents came to collect them.

City Art Center Volunteer (2022 - ongoing ) - As a volunteer with the City Art Center, I work specifically with Primary School groups from under serviced areas that join us on school trips. I work with children from P4 to P7, as well as youth groups from around the city. My main role as a volunteer is to assist the program leader with the running of each school visit. When the schools arrive we take them around a few of the current exhibits and engage in learning exercises with them surrounding the art. We would then take them to the art room where we supervise and assist them in creating an art piece inspired by the exhibit we recently observed. I sign up to volunteer whenever time permits, I took up this role because I wanted to continue my volunteering work in a field that is of great interest to me. I enjoy creating art in my personal time and I one day hope to work with children, so this role is both a valuable learning experience and a rewarding endeavour.

Regular nanny (2022- present) - I am currently a part time regular nanny for two young boys (2 & 5). My responsibilities in this role include picking up the children from school/nursery, engaging them in fun age appropriate activities while at home, preparing their snack (and sometimes dinner), and helping with odd jobs around the house such as tidying toys and doing the children's washing. I often on occasion will look after the children late at night while their parents attend events or overnight while their parents are travelling.

My Qualifications

I completed a PVG check for my current childcare job and I came out with a clear result.

I completed a mandated reporter course in preparation for my camp councillor exchange programme and can provide evidence of my certificate.

I am trained in CPR techniques for both adults and babies (training conducted in high school)

I have completed my high school education and I am currently pursuing an undergraduate Honors degree in Psychology and Sociology.
