About Me
Hello I’m Alison, I’m a 29 year old mature student living with her dog by the seaside. I am currently studying for my masters in psychology and counselling for children and young people but miss my kiddos! I am a fully qualified nursery practitioner with a range of experience from birth to 16 years of age. I have worked in a variety of settings from nursery’s, after school clubs, holiday clubs, ski chalets, weddings and of course nannying at the child’s home. I have always loved working with children, it has been my passion since leaving school and I’m keen to always work with children in some way or another! When I’m not buried in the books I spend most of my time exploring the outdoors whatever the weather may be, cooking up a storm in the kitchen or getting creative with some arts and crafts and imaginative play. I’ve lived in Edinburgh most of my life, I love to learn new things and have spent a few months living in other countries such as Spain, France & Switzerland.
My Experience
I started my childcare journey whilst at secondary school, I would volunteer my time during my free periods to assist the teachers within the junior school classes. From school I spent a year in college achieving my NC early education and childcare. I was then offered an apprenticeship within a private nursery, during this time I gained a variety of qualifications such as food and hygiene, first aid ect whilst also gaining amazing experience with children aged birth to 5. From here I moved with my manager to a larger nursery with more children and more responsibilities, here I was the supervisor of 52 preschool aged children and during my time here I helped improve the nursery and I’m pleased to say we passed our inspection with flying colours. I loved my time at private nursery’s however after this I was looking for something more intimate and personal so I started my nanny journey. This journey has allowed me to explore so many opportunities and widen my experience drastically. I had the pleasure of working at weddings, some overnight stays and I worked part time with different families of children aged from 1-11 whilst caring for a close family member. I was then given the incredible opportunity to nanny in unbelievable chalets within the French / Swiss mountains where I spent a few months before having to return home because of the pandemic. During the pandemic I nannied for a lovely family I had known since my days within nursery’s; children aged between 6-10, from playing and preparing meals, exploring the outdoors and our own makeshift lessons. After I returned to my studies and have been nannying part time along side. Looking to meet some new families and of course offer my babysitting services!
