My Experience
For the past 8 months have worked in a Montessori school in Gibraltar, assisting the learning
of children 18 months to 6 years old. Unlike the usual classroom setting i have been
accustomed to for the past 18 years, working to the montessori teaching method has
enabled me to experience a unique style of education. This learning style incorporates
traditional subjects such as language, mathematics, science & music, but in a way that
children are able to make creative choices in their learning, individually discover and explore
knowledge of the world, and to develop their maximum potential.Prior to my current job I had worked in a local primary school for 10 years starting out as a
volunteer mum in the school's nursery, this later led to the position as a full time classroom
assistant. This involved working with year 1 children in small groups, assessing their
individual progress and carrying out child-specific observations whilst delivering activities
set by the teacher. This job enabled me to achieve my NVQ level 3 in earlyears care and
education qualification, allowing me to assist and often lead in classroom duties to children
aged 4-7. I was also given additional 1:1 responsibilities working with a child having Autistic
Spectrum Disorder. Initially this child had limited communication skills, no spoken language
ability and poor social interaction, but through the use of speech and language therapy,
communication implements and my own structured learning progression plan, this child left
my care with a remarkable improvement in his communication and spoken language ability.
His progression was monitored through setting individual education plans, small termly
assessments and writing reviews parallel to his learning progression.

I don't know where to start in telling you about our experience with Claire. From the moment she arrived she was a blessing to our family. She is punctual, organised and reliable. Claire cared for our two daughters (aged 2.5 and 6 months) for two months. It was an early start each morning, but despite this she still arrived fresh, positive and organised. She had activities prepared to keep our very active toddler entertained for five hours. Something I can't even do as her mother. Claire was loving, caring and still implemented gentle discipline when needed. Claire felt like family, when our children were with her we felt completely at ease knowing they were being taken care of. My toddler's language skills came along in leaps and bounds while being looked after by Claire as she not only 'babysat', she educated our children. She taught our toddler songs, rhymes, hands on painting activities/craft and followed a Montessori approach teaching my daughter independence. My daughter now folds her own clothes in the morning. Claire focused on our children the entire time, was not on her phone and didn't sit our children in front of the tv. Claire is a beautiful human, who as I said felt like family very quickly.

Claire has a wonderful way with children and has been so accommodating and considerate. When our daughter was sick she was incredibly good with her despite her being so fussy. She’s wonderful at seeing what we needed help with before we even knew it ourselves. We’d highly recommend Claire to anyone looking for babysitting or help with their child.
