My Experience

Before becoming a full-time private tutor, Nathan spent four years working in London schools as a teaching assistant, facilitator and tutor. During this time he gained experience across mainstream state schools, independent schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings, including The Family School in Islington, Hammersmith Academy and Little Ilford School. This diverse background has given him extensive experience supporting students with a wide range of learning styles, abilities and educational needs.

As a freelance tutor, Nathan has successfully supported students in KS1 and KS2 English and Mathematics, 11+ preparation, ISEB Common Pre-Test, GCSE English Language and Literature, GCSE Sociology, A-Level Sociology, and university-level social sciences. He also teaches piano and music theory, preparing students for graded examinations and developing their confidence as musicians.

Nathan holds A-Levels in English Literature, English Language and Philosophy, a BA in Social Anthropology, and an MSc in Environmental Anthropology from University College London, graduating with Distinction. His academic background enables him to support students not only in subject knowledge but also in essay writing, critical thinking, research skills and examination technique.

Nathan has worked with leading tutoring agencies, including Bright Heart Education and Education Wheel, as well as working for local authorities and the National Tutoring Programme – where he has helped students make significant academic progress while building their confidence and independence. He has extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners and students requiring tailored educational support, adapting his teaching to meet each individual's needs.

Nathan is passionate about making learning engaging, enjoyable and meaningful. He believes that the best education comes from fostering curiosity, confidence and intrinsic motivation. Rather than relying on memorisation alone, he creates personalised lessons that align with the national curriculum while encouraging students to understand the "why" behind what they are learning. His supportive and student-centred approach helps learners develop not only stronger academic outcomes but also the skills and confidence to become independent, lifelong learners.
