Brooke
Nanny in Seven Sisters
My Summary
About Me
Working with children will always bring joy to the most menial of things, which is why I have chosen nannying as a career.
I have a very patient and maternal approach to discipline - gentle parenting done correctly - with firm boundaries that I follow through with.
I am very involved and try to engage the children's interests at all times, e.g. if we are out for a walk I will be talking to them about things in the everyday world we may come across to help develop their understanding. I am not the type of nanny to sit at the side and watch, I am very much engaged in play and have fun alongside the children.
I tend to naturally apply my teaching experience without realising, I may speak using phonics! Saying things like p-u-t on your c-oa-t. This helps when it comes to reading and writing. I am creative, with experience of art & DT leadership in school. I organised whole school projects and competitions. I like to draw in my spare time and have sold a couple portraits in the past.
I am a sporty person - I love football. I have a FA Coaching certificate, which focuses on football but can be applied to other sports too. I was a pitch side therapist for Bradford City Football club academy (ages 7-18 years). I have also treated children's injuries in a clinical setting too.
I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I cook a lot of Caribbean food (my nephew is obsessed with my mac and cheese) but my favourite cuisine is Thai!
My Experience
I have extensive experience ranging from newborn to teenagers, as a nanny and teacher and I would love the opportunity to continue using my broad skill set to help nurture more wonderful, developing minds.
I am happy taking sole charge to organise play dates, suitable activities and classes for us to enjoy, whilst keeping parents fully updated and involved; with shared access calendars and emails, whatsapp groups with pictures throughout the day! I enjoy taking charges out and about and exposing them to new experiences. On quieter days, we can also get creative at home, using my previous art & DT school leadership skills.. My degree in therapy means that I can provide feedback on atypical physical development and can offer suggestions for any early onset concerns. As well as being confident in delivering appropriate first aid.
I am more than happy for them to enjoy the outdoors to its full potential, meaning allowing full exploration without personal concerns of messy play etc; whilst also ensuring they remain well groomed and 'looked after'; bathing, nail and hair cutting... I am familiar with the area and aware of the amazing things it has to offer.
With the longevity of the role, I plan to help foster an inquisitive personality that loves to learn and tackle new challenges with confidence, through trust in knowing that I am there for support. I will always encourage independence in a nurturing manner so your little one can become a critical thinker and tackle life's big challenges with confidence. For example, allowing them to climb without the dreaded "be careful" but instead "how can we get down in a safe way?”.
I have always planned and cooked all meals from scratch, ensuring they are nourishing and varied and accommodating to multiple severe allergies. I can cook multiple cuisines well and enjoy introducing new meals into circulation.
I appreciate that trusting a professional with the most precious thing in your life may seem daunting, so it is important our opinions on parenting style align. I believe in gentle parenting, done correctly - firm but fair with compassion, explanation, and once understanding and cognitive ability has developed, natural consequences. I would like to offer confidence in knowing that I have extensive childcare experience and I would love to introduce myself over the phone and in person so that you can get a sense of my personality and skills.
