About Me

Hi, my name is Amy and I am a 21 year old student. I study Primary Education at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. I am home for the Summer. I am a friendly, co-operative, outgoing and hard-working person who is upbeat and fun. I work well as part of a team and as an individual. I am always punctual and reliable. My hobbies include dancing, music, film/tv, reading, swimming, quizzes and singing. I love arts and crafts and playing/learning games. I am part of the swim committee at my university. I have wanted to become a teacher for a very long time and babysitting will give me the opportunity to see what children's hobbies and likes/dislikes are and how to make my classroom the best I can for children of all ages.

My Experience

2.5 years experience as a Pupil Support Assistant (PSA) to all year groups, working between two schools (pre-Covid). Gaining many skills such as First Aid (SQA Qualification - Expires September 2022), Child Protection, Manual Handling, Google Classroom Training, Fire Safety, Food and Hygiene. Building many relationships with children. I worked with different pupils helping them with reading, spelling, writing, maths, delivering activities that support their understanding of these subjects. I was given responsibility to take groups out to develop their learning. Overseeing their maths tests, marking and giving feedback. During Covid lockdown I worked in the school teaching Key Workers Children in Primary 6. This involved delivering tasks through Google Classroom from their teacher, creating activities such as arts and crafts, quizzes, stories, games, outdoor activities and problem solving. I loved this job and was grateful to have this experience before starting University as it has given me the confidence to teach.

I have just completed my First Year at University. During this year I was involved in 30hrs of Community Based Experience (CBE) working with beavers and cubs. I lead different lessons such as bullying, the phonetic alphabet, playing games (sharks, scavenger hunts, etc.). Attending a 10K sponsored walk to raise money for them to get a bus for camping and raise money for charities in Ukraine, they raised over £1,500. I also volunteered with the beavers, we looked at first aid and what you should do in an emergency. The children were shown how-to put-on bandages and who to phone/ speak to when in an emergency. They were also show how to put someone in the recovery positions. We also spoke about the highway code and how to be safe near the roads. This was a great experience and I revived full marks from the leaders.

I have babysat for family and family friends since the age of 14.

During School I was Prefect and part Peer Support which involved going during lunch time to play games and help children who are new to academy and struggle to make new friends. I was a principal part in Rock Challenge which shows the effects of drugs and alcohol through dance. I also volunteered at a primary school during my free periods working with children helping with tasks and at breaktimes. This was a great experience and jumpstarted my goal to become a teacher.

4 years experience working in a café trusted by management to run kiosk by myself; In addition, handled cash and was the focal point for customers in the main café. 1.5 years bar experience.
