Tutoring 15 minutes a day, NOT 1-hour per week!

Hi, I’m Chris. I’ve been a primary teacher for 10 years, and I’m trialling a different way of offering tutoring for primary-aged children: 15 minutes of live, one-to-one online tutoring every day, Monday to Friday.

Instead of one longer lesson each week, I’ll work with your child in short, focused sessions, at times we agree together.

For this trial, I’m offering a substantially reduced rate of £30 per week. So that's five individual sessions (a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes of tutoring each week) for £30!

Why little and often?
Short, frequent sessions can be a better fit for building core skills, particularly for younger children. Rather than trying to fit everything into one long lesson, we can focus on a manageable amount, practise it carefully and return to it the next day.

It also means I’m there to guide the practice. I can spot difficulties, adjust the teaching and help your child build on what they’ve learned throughout the week.

But does online tutoring work for younger children?
You might understandably wonder whether your child will engage with a tutor through a screen. I’ve taught younger children online and my experience has shown me that it can work well when the sessions and activities are designed for them.

Alongside my teaching experience, I’ve completed a Master’s in Education and Technology. I create a focused, uncluttered online learning space, with activities prepared and ready to go when your child logs in. These are live lessons with me, not videos to watch or worksheets to complete alone.

Think of it a bit like building a daily Duolingo habit, but with a friendly human tutor there throughout, teaching, encouraging and tailoring the learning to your child.

What can we work on?
For this trial, I’m focusing on two areas:

Times tables: Helping children understand multiplication, use useful patterns and strategies, and work towards recalling their tables accurately and confidently.

Phonics, spelling and reading: Targeting your child’s next steps, whether that means blending sounds, tackling unfamiliar words, practising spelling patterns or reading more confidently.

I’ve chosen these because they’re areas where I regularly see children needing support and they lend themselves to focused, repeated practice. We’ll establish your child’s starting point and agree realistic goals.

How will the sessions fit into our week?
We’ll agree a set time for each weekday. It doesn’t have to be the same time every day, but keeping a consistent weekly pattern will help everyone establish a routine.
