Trainee Tutor / Trainee Behavioural Therapist / Trainee Psychologist
Part-Time | Houghton Regis, Dunstable | 15–20 hours per week

About the Role

Are you compassionate, organised, intuitive, resilient, calm and committed?
Are you studying, or do you already have a degree in Psychology, Behavioural Science, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or a related field? Or perhaps you already have practical experience working with children with SEN and/or autism and would like to develop your professional skills further?

We are looking for a Trainee Tutor / Behavioural Therapist / Trainee Psychologist to support our 7-year-old son in Houghton Regis, Dunstable.

A relevant degree is ideal, but not mandatory.

We also welcome applications from people who have relevant experience working with children with SEN and/or autism.

We are particularly interested in hearing from Ofsted-registered nannies, as well as experienced nannies, teaching assistants, SEN support workers and other childcare professionals.

For the right candidate, training and ongoing professional support will be provided.

Who You Will Be Supporting
The role involves supporting a child with:
- Autism and sensory needs
- Communication difficulties
- Complex learning needs
- Individual behavioural, developmental and learning needs

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and is interested in helping a child develop communication, learning, independence and everyday life skills.

Professional Training and Development
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to gain practical experience alongside professional training.
You will work under the guidance of a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), who will provide training and supervision relating to the child's individual programme.

You will also receive training and guidance from Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) professionals to help you support the child's programmes on a regular basis.

Training and practical experience may include:
- Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- Communication and language programmes
- Supporting sensory and occupational therapy programmes
- Data collection and progress monitoring
- Implementing individualised learning and behavioural programmes
- Developing play, communication and independence skills

Qualifications and Experience
Ideally, you will have a degree, be studying towards a degree, or have another relevant qualification in an area such as:

Another relevant subject

However, a degree is not mandatory.

We are also very interested in candidates who have practical experience supporting children with SEN and/or autism, including:

- Ofsted-registered nannies
- Experienced nannies with SEN/autism experience
- SEN teaching assistants
- SEN support workers
- Childcare professionals
- Individuals with other relevant experience supporting children with additional needs

If you have the appropriate experience, personal qualities and commitment, we can provide training to help you develop your skills for the role.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the child's individual learning and behavioural programme
- Following programmes developed or recommended by the supervising professionals
- Supporting communication, play, learning and independence
- Recording relevant data and progress
- Communicating with the family and professional team
- Supporting the child's emotional wellbeing
- Helping with feeding and personal care, including changing nappies where required
- Organising toys and learning resources
- Keeping the child's play and learning areas clean and organised
- Light child-related cooking and food preparation where required
- Following appropriate hygiene, health, safety and safeguarding requirements
- Responding calmly and appropriately in unexpected or emergency situations
- Respecting different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs

Essential Requirements. Candidates should have:
- The right to work in the UK
- A valid DBS check or willingness and eligibility to obtain the appropriate DBS check
- The ability to travel reliably to Houghton Regis, Dunstable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good time-management and organisational skills
- Basic IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
- A genuine interest in supporting a child with autism
- The ability to make a reliable and consistent commitment to the programme

A driving licence and access to a car would be beneficial, although candidates who can reliably commute to Houghton Regis will also be considered.

Hours
The child's overall programme is approximately 35 hours per week, shared between two to three tutors.For this particular position, we are looking for someone who can provide:

- 15–20 fixed hours per week
- Flexibility to undertake additional hours where mutually agreed
- 3-hour paid workshop every four weeks
- 1-hour paid SLT training session each month
- 3 hours of OT training per term

Availability and Commitment
- Consistency is very important for this role.
- We are looking for someone who can commit to working throughout all three school terms, as well as being available for:

- 1 week during the Easter holidays
- 2 weeks during the summer holidays
- 1 week during the Christmas holidays

We are therefore looking for someone who wants to develop a consistent and reliable working relationship with the child and the wider team.
