About Me
I am a 25-year-old who has just completed a Master's degree in children and young people's mental health. I was born and grew up in French Switzerland and am as a result bilingual. I would describe myself as someone who is kind, caring and compassionate. I am also calm and patient. I love interacting with children and getting to know their unique personalities and quirks. I also love engaging in play and being creative with children.
My Experience
I have experience working as a teaching assistant in a class of children with special educational needs and disabilities. My role included assisting the class teacher in carrying out lessons, help setting up activities, assisting each child with class activities and helping adapt these activities to each child individually based on each their strengths and weaknesses. My role also included supervising children during recess, playing with children, and interacting with them. I also helped regulate children when upset.
I also currently work as a support worker for children and adolescents with special needs. As a support worker I am paired with a child for the day and allow them to lead the interactions and activities that we do. I also help them participate in the group activities and accompany them on outings. I adapt my interactions to each child based on their own individual traits and must remain highly attuned to them to be alert for any changes in mood or behaviour to accommodate them as best as I am able. I am also responsible for reporting any safeguarding concerns.
I also work with an agency called TrioCare, where I am sent as a support staff to different childcare settings including nurseries, morning clubs and after school clubs, and babysitting.
Finally, I have experience tutoring young people. My role included giving private English lessons to two French-speaking young people when I was living in Switzerland, as I am bilingual. I prepared each lesson based on areas they wanted and needed for improvement. I made sure to adapt my teaching to both students individually based on their strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes
My Qualifications
I have a Bachelor's in Psychology with a Distinction. I have also just completed a Master's in Children and Young People's Mental Health.
My Availability
I have quite a packed schedule with a regular commitment all day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Saturday, but am currently open to occasional babysitting in locations close to Marchmont.
