My Requirements

Hi everyone,

We're looking for a registered childminder (or similar childcare arrangement) for our 3-year-old son, Alfie, in the Eastleigh/Chandler's Ford area.

Alfie has recently moved to the UK from China. He has already been offered a nursery place, but he won't be starting until the end of August. Before then, we'd love to help him gradually settle into the UK environment, meet other children, and get used to hearing and using English.

A little about him:

3 years old (born in March 2023)
Recently arrived from China
Very little English at the moment
Attended nursery in China for around six months
Loves cars and outdoor play
He may be a little upset or shy at first while settling in, but he usually warms up once he feels comfortable.

We're looking for:

A registered childminder (or similar childcare setting)
Ideally 3–4 mornings per week (or even every weekday morning if available)
Morning sessions only (around 3–4 hours)
No meals required
From now until the end of August

Our main goal isn't childcare itself—we'd simply like to help him build confidence, get used to being away from family, play with other children, and become familiar with English before nursery starts.

Any recommendations that could help him settle in, such as local activities, playgroups, or classes that we could attend together, would also be greatly appreciated. I work at the University of Southampton, so I have plenty of time to spend with him over the summer.
