My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Jane, I am a caring and dependable 53 year old, non-smoker, who takes pleasure in designing enjoyable and interactive activities for children. My priority is to offer a secure, encouraging, and nurturing atmosphere where kids can feel joyful and self-assured. Parents can rely on me to be observant, responsible, and dedicated to ensuring that each day is fun and uplifting for the children in my care.
I have an employment background based largely in the heritage sector and have spent many years working in theatres and museums. I currently work weekends in a child-friendly museum in Bradford where it's always a pleasure and privilege to engage with our small visitors (and the adult ones too!).
In my spare time I love crafting - knitting, sewing, zine-making and visiting museums, galleries and other heritage/arts sites. I also enjoy reading, writing and a spot of balcony gardening.
I am competent and enthusiastic vegetarian/pescatarian cook and a strong believer in children being taught culinary skills outside the classroom so I am happy to feed your little one whilst teaching them some basic techniques. Pizza making with self-made chef hats was a huge favourite with my nephews when they were younger. Cooking should be fun as well as educational.
There's nothing more important than the safety of your little one, whilst I don't have a current DBS certificate - I let it lapse whilst I wasn't looking for childcare work, in all honesty I just don't see the point of the expenditure if I don't have anyone contacting me or needing my services - but I am more than happy to apply for one and upload it for you if we are in serious discussions about my providing you with childcare of any sort. I can also produce excellent, personal references.
Any questions please do get in touch.
My Experience
Having much younger silblings (14 & 18 years younger than myself) I have looked after younger children since my mid-teens. I don't have any children of my own, nor formal childcare qualifications, however I have worked around children throughout my years employed in arts and heritage organisations and am a proud auntie to nephews and nieces of varying ages.
I used to babysit extensively for my friends daughter, Joley, who's now 19 and we spent many happy hours after school whilst her mum took her older brother Brandon, (now a a semi-professional footballer) to evening practice -cooking, reading, writing exercises and crafting were just some of the activities we enjoyed together. During the school holidays we went on days out - history trails were a favourite! - and learning trips to museums, galleries and theatre - the latter being things I'm glad to say we still do together now she is older. Now a very busy and thriving young lady, I'm really proud that Joley says she remembers our time together during her formative years so fondly and that she learnt so much whilst also having lots of fun (proud 'Auntie' moment). She's happy to provide me with a personal reference.
I have lots of experience working with children of all ages from my time employed in museums and theatre. Science Night at the Science Museum in London was personal favourite- getting to camp out in the Space Gallery overnight was pretty amazing, I think I enjoyed it as much as the kids!
My Qualifications
I have no formal childcare qualifications but am an intelligent, articulate person with a friendly personality and good all-round education (9 GCSEs grade C & above) and a background working with children in a heritage/arts setting.
My Availability
I'm currently available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from midday to 8/9pm (there is some flexibility in this)
Please note I'm not a driver, so it would be best if you're near a bus route or train station, I can also look at taking a taxi to/from you if this isn't cost prohibitive. I'm also happy to discuss your little one to coming to my own home.
Please do get in touch to discuss if you have any questions.
My Fees
- Babysitting from £13.54 per hour
My starting rate is Living Wage, which is currently £13.54 per hour for basic childcare - which I consider to be ensuring the safety and wellbeing of your child in your own home, engaging them in activities and providing them with a meal/s if required (food costs extra if not provided by you). I will cover my own travel costs of £6 per day, anything above this I would require reimbursement.
Happy to discuss fees and terms etc, please contact me.
My Documents
