My Summary
Child-Focused Nanny With Residential Care Experience And A Love Of Outdoor Adventures ⭐️
About Me
Hello! I’m Heather, originally from Stockport, and I spend a lot of time in Northwich with my sister and her family. I’m hoping to relocate there in the future, so I’m happy to support families in either the Stockport or Northwich areas.
Working with children has always been the part of life that brings me the most fulfilment. Over the years I’ve gained experience through nursery volunteering, outdoor education, residential childcare, and, most importantly, being a very hands-on auntie.
Since my niece Phoebe was born, I’ve been lucky enough to spend a huge amount of time helping to care for her as she’s grown. From the newborn stage through to toddlerhood, I’ve loved being involved in everything from play, outings and bedtime routines to encouraging her confidence, independence and curiosity about the world. Watching children learn new skills and personalities develop is one of my favourite parts of caring for them.
My time working in residential childcare taught me so much about therapeutic, child-centred care. I received extensive training in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, autism, ADHD, emotional regulation and supporting children through challenging experiences. It strengthened my belief that every child deserves to feel safe, listened to, respected and understood. I aim to build trusting relationships where children feel secure enough to learn, explore and simply enjoy being children.
I’m a naturally active person and love creating fun experiences. I enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, walking, playing guitar and drums, jigsaws, crafts, baking and getting outdoors whenever possible. Equally, I’m just as happy spending a rainy afternoon building dens, reading stories, playing imaginative games or watching a Disney film together (and yes… I still secretly love Bluey!).
I believe children learn best through play, encouragement and consistency. Every family has their own routines, values and parenting style, and I’m always keen to work alongside parents to provide the care and support that suits them best. My goal is to become someone both children and parents can genuinely trust and rely on.
My Experience
My experience with children began during secondary school, where I volunteered in a local nursery supporting children aged 1-4. I later volunteered at an outdoor watersports centre, helping children and young people aged 4-16 participate in activities such as kayaking, canoeing and other outdoor adventures. This inspired me to study Outdoor Adventure at college, where I gained qualifications to lead a range of outdoor activities.
Following college, I spent several years working in accounting, achieving my AAT Level 2 qualification and progressing part-way through Level 3. Although I enjoyed the organisation and responsibility of the role, I realised I missed working directly with people and wanted a career where I could make a more meaningful difference each day.
This led me into residential childcare, supporting children with complex emotional and behavioural needs. The role involved creating structured daily routines, preparing meals, organising activities, supporting education, administering and recording medication, managing young people’s spending money, completing detailed reports, safeguarding responsibilities and, most importantly, providing therapeutic, child-focused emotional support. Through this role I completed extensive training in safeguarding, trauma-informed care, autism, ADHD, child exploitation, medication administration, behaviour support and positive relationship building.
Alongside my professional experience, I have always been actively involved in caring for my nieces and nephews. Since my niece Phoebe was born, I have spent a significant amount of time caring for her and supporting her development through play, outings, routines and everyday life. These experiences have reinforced my passion for helping children grow into happy, confident and secure young people.
I am fully first aid trained, hold an enhanced DBS, have a full UK driving licence and pride myself on being reliable, organised, calm under pressure and genuinely enthusiastic about supporting children and their families.
