We are a welcoming family looking for an experienced, patient, and proactive nanny to care for our two children: an 8-year-old boy who is quite independent for his age, and a cheeky and imaginative 5-year-old girl.
Our daughter has Special Educational Needs (SEN) centred on receptive and expressive language, social communication, and emotional regulation. She thrives with 1:1 adult connection, responsive play, and calm, predictable routines. Our son enjoys conversation and shared activities after school, but is increasingly independent.
The primary focus of this role is fostering a calm, supportive after-school environment where both children can unwind after the school day, connect, and enjoy engaging activities, while supporting them on their educational journeys so they can grow in confidence and independence.

Job Title: Permanent Part-Time SEN After-School Nanny
Location: Petts Wood, BR5
Hours: 18.5 hours per week
Monday to Thursday: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Friday: 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM
(Optional: Additional full-day hours may be available during school holidays by mutual arrangement.)
Start Date: November 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Collect both children from schools. The schools, next to each other, are within walking distance of our home, although a driver may have greater flexibility for outings and activities.
- Manage staggered pick-up times when one child attends an after-school activity.
- Facilitate a smooth transition from school to home including decompression time after the school day.
- Plan and coordinate activities, local park outings, or supervised playdates that encourage social skills, confidence, and wellbeing.
- Support homework for both children, and any specific focus areas for our daughter.
- Prepare healthy snacks and simple evening meals for the children and tidy up post-meal.
- Light housekeeping for children e.g. ensure school bags are unpacked, and play spaces are kept tidy.
SEN Focus (supporting our 5-year-old daughter)
- Use clear, supportive communication strategies (e.g. visual cues, processing time, and positive reinforcement) to aid comprehension and self-expression.
- Co-regulate and provide a patient, grounding presence when she feels overwhelmed or tired after school.
- Incorporate fun, low-pressure activities supporting current school development areas (e.g. cursive writing, shared reading).
- Work in close partnership with us to maintain consistency between home, school, and after-school care.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Direct experience supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) or neurodivergent profiles.
- Warm, calm, emotionally attuned, patient, and proactive in planning purposeful after-school downtime and play.
- Manage staggered pick-up times when one child attends an after-school activity.
- Driver with own car is a plus, but walking candidates are welcome.
- Excellent references from previous childcare roles.
